And when he does that, then that would be a reasonable suggestion. I don’t think it’s at all unreasonable to have a rule prohibiting the use of certain offensive language - and as the sole authority, it’s Tom’s purview to decide what that means.

If Tom really wanted those words to stop from being posted, he could have the forum software replace their mentions automatically, as was done during the whole Tapir incident. But instead of being witty, he could just have it be replaced with ****'s. Banning people over bad language is dumb - especially when you have tools to prevent it from happening to begin with. If people go out of their way to avoid the replace thing, then ban them.
And as for usage - as I’ve mentioned on many threads, the C-word is now used daily in my household due to Deadwood. Thank you Deadwood.

Again, Tom hasn’t just picked out random “bad” words he doesn’t want people to say. No one gets banned for using the F-word or any number of others. The one I know of that is a no-no is widely held, under common community standards, to be EXTREMELY offensive, and the fact that a little girl used it in a movie and they said it a lot on Deadwood doesn’t make it less so. And if the n-word isn’t a bannable offense, it should be.
Tom’s not being arbitrary. Only the worst of the worst are verboten. We get away with a lot here.
