Yeah, I could ask you privately and get a private answer, but it’s as a member of the Qt3 public that I want to know if we’re still allowed to use the word Dave.

Oooh, I hope the updated graphic says “BannedJustBanned”

Alternatively, you could act like an adult. It’s pretty sad when I have to ask people not to run around using the c-word like little kids testing how much they can get away with. I’ve made my opinion clear in the thread where the issue came up. If you can’t figure from that what is and isn’t appropriate, there are plenty of other forums where your lack of social skills will be welcome.

Is this the wrong thread to talk about how the thing I love about QT3 is that we’re all adults and we don’t have to have stupid things like prohibitions on language because, as adults, we don’t read too much into silly little things like ‘curse words’ and can act rationally when confronted by things that would sometimes be called ‘obscene?’

Maybe it is.

Ppl, there’s plenty of ways to be juvenile without swearing.

Trust me on this.

And just to clarify, it’s not swearing per se that’s a problem. The problem is when someone rightly points out that you guys are being crass jerks, your reaction is to post a giant picture of an objectionable word and then use the word over and over again because you think it’s funny. When I then suggest that it’s not funny to me, rolling it out again and again doesn’t increase the funny.

Certainly there are worse justifications you could have given. Under the circumstances, I am inclined to be mollified. Nevertheless, banning Bob seems awfully harsh, as he wasn’t the one who posted the giant graphic. True, he is a lunatic who loves only Dynasty Warriors and upskirt shots of rare birds, but I’d hate to see him gone over this.

As I said, no such thing happened. And again, next time you’re in need of “being mollified”, there’s a little hyperlink up there and slightly to the right that you can use to send me a message. You’ll find my username immediately to the left of this post. If that’s too complicated, you can click on my username and select “send private message” from the dropdown menu.

What if it was a picture of the boat from Arrested Development?

I don’t only love Dynasty Warriors. I love Dynasty Warriors in addition to many other things. Like Mercenaries 2, which is far better than GTA4 no matter what Tom says.

I was going to ask, “what the hell is a tapir?” But then I remembered the internet.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tapir

Me, man. I’m a tapir.

For the record, I find the idea that we of the weaker sex need the menfolk to protect us from the big, bad 4 letter word incredibly patronizing.

You c-…tapir.

CARLIN!

That’s because you’re a huge Dave Markell’s weeping twat.

For the record, no one’s trying to “protect” you, Angie. Believe it or not, this has nothing to do with you. It has to do with social standards. I’d react the same way if people starting tossing around the n-word.

-Tom

I don’t think anyone has said or implied that, Angie, just as I don’t think we’re being patronizing to African-Americans by disallowing the big, bad 6 letter word. A (very) few terms are so demeaning and controversial that’s it’s better to avoid them entirely. My wife doesn’t need “protection” from the environment here. She decided it was a hostile place to be, and left for friendlier pastures. That angered me. I’d like to think that this forum, because of its industry and journalism ties, would be the best place on the net for female gamers, so I spoke up.

Noika?

The original request by Dave was framed as protecting a woman’s sensibilities, and that seems to have caused the snowball to this point, so that’s what I was reacting to. For what it’s worth, and I know that’s not much, I don’t see any equivalence between the two words you are comparing.
