Huh, they used to have Chessmaster: Grandmaster Edition on Steam, which was a much more full-featured version, but it seems to be gone now.

I recently picked up the 360 version of Armageddon and watched the boys play it a bit. If you expect an open-world game like Guerilla, you’ll probably be disappointed. This one’s more of a tunnel-crawler.

But, hey, $12.50.

I’d recommend checking out the demo on 360 or via OnLive (I think the PC demo is OnLive exclusive). I got so bored playing the 360 demo that I couldn’t even finish that much of the game.

Does anyone know how well Red Faction:Armageddon was ported?

I’ve heard good things about the port.

I don’t have an Xbox and I can’t use OnLive, unfortunately. I’ll read some reviews.

It’s an entirely competent port. YMMV whether the game itself is any good.

Heh. Same here. I loved Guerrilla, but Armageddon’s demo was so boring. The worst part was that when I used the most interesting weapon (the magnet gun, which is awesome), I inevitably always ended up destroying the walkways around me along with the enemies, so I had to constantly rebuild my path forward with that stupid re-intergrator gun-thingie that rebuilds things. Can you imagine having to do that for the entire game? Having a fight, and then rebuilding your way forward? No thanks. What horrible game design.

No, still waiting. I can’t find the promo or any other information about it any more. I’m just sorta hoping they didn’t change the promo or something.

Same here, think I’ll probably send an email if at the end of the day, I still get no word on the promotion.

Hey man, I know I said I’d get it to you by the 12th but I’m really short on cash right now. I get paid Friday, so I can get it by then for sure. Thanks bro.

Oh man I’m an idiot. I meant to ask whether Red Faction Guerilla was a decent port. Sorry! Can anyone fill me in?

Is Armageddon (and I do mean Armageddon) worth the $12 just as a typical shooter, understanding that it completely scraps what made Guerrilla awesome? Is it good at what it does set out to do, even though that very design itself is arguably a big step back from Guerrilla?

I played it only briefly - discovered I felt no urge to replay it after purchase, go figure - so grain of salt, but it was fine technically. Decent (not great) framerate, no bugs - but something in the controls felt off. I just couldn’t get the right combo of mouse acceleration/weapon timing to make it feel as meaty as say, Dead Island or the Battlefield titles.

I found it to be a pretty crappy port myself. Armageddon was very solid, though.

Gives me great hope for the PC SKU of Saint’s Row 3.

Guerilla worked ok on PC after a port. I’d still say that the 360 version plays better though. Had some problems with sound and speed on Guerilla PC, but cant recall if this was before or after a patch… (I.e. I haven’t played the PC version as much as the 360 version… )

Hey, thanks for the heads-up on AC: Brotherhood, stusser. That’s the kind of deal I like to see. Downloading now.

I have it on steam, I like it, and to be honest I wasn’t aware that it’s a port untill I read this. So I guess it’s pretty good port, although I haven’t played the original version.

That one’s not as bad as the Saints Row 2 port, but still had some significant technical issues. In particular, I have a pretty beefy computer but had severe framerate issues during destruction unless I ran the game windowed (don’t ask me why that helped), which I did at full desktop resolution.

Thanks guys. I’m just going to bite because, hey 5 bucks and I liked it on PS3. Much appreciated.
