Actually, I think I’m getting F.E.A.R. confused with S.T.A.L.K.E.R., sorry. Damned preiody names.
I was wrong, FlatOut wouldn’t run for me because of the two different video cards in my laptop, apparently I remembered that as a Win7 problem.
I always wanted to fight a desperate battle against incredible odds!

Oh FFS I just bought amnesia and fear on gamers gate and now steam has amnesia for the same price and the fear pack which has the 2 first games and all of the DLC for cheaper than just the two games from Gamersgate.
This is why you don’t jump on a sale!

Ah, you probably have a setup similar to my laptop, where you have switchable graphics between Intel built-in graphics and a 3d card. Unfortunately for a lot of newer games that means that the drivers for the 3d card are not up to date enough. Luckily I have a desktop machine on which I can play the latest stuff halfway decently.
iOS version of King of Dragon Pass is 40% off for a week.
How are the Sherlock Holmes games? Would they be fun to play with a friend who doesn’t normally play games but likes to read mysteries?
Not sure if it’s been mentioned but all Cryptic Comet games are 50% off
Coupon code is NEVERONSTEAM ;D
Is either of those Sherlock Holmes games the one with the creepy Watson?

Yes, but with one big caveat: these are adventure games, and as such are stuffed to the brim with silly puzzles. For a non-gamer to best enjoy the games, I would have a walkthrough (freely available online, I recommend http://www.uhs-hints.com/) handy to use the second dealing with one of the puzzles becomes frustrating. Vs. Jack the Ripper is particularly good at allowing the player to use observation and logical deduction to solve puzzles. But there’s still plenty of bullshit. But good games overall, and pretty unique.

No, that’s from “Nemesis,” considered to be the worst of the series.

Included in this RPS bargain post.
Edit: Just grabbed the two STALKER games on Steam. Less than $9.00, can’t be beat.
I’m enjoying Awakened so far. It’s got some goofy bits, but some of the puzzles are decent, and the writing isn’t half-bad. Voice acting sucks though.
It’s got a built-in walkthrough, which I haven’t been shy about using, because sometimes even though the next step is obvious, you have to do something silly to advance the plot before you can actually DO that next step.
Steam’s Daily Deal for October 30th is Depths of Peril for $3.75 (75% off). It’s an indie RPG that was warmly received here as I recall.

Yea, it’s a Soldak creation. It’s like a mix of ARPG with some Strategy and light Diplomatic mechanics thrown in for good measure. It’s these last two features that makes it most unique and appealing, and helps it stand out from most ARPGs. I find the art and graphics charming, but it would be fair to say not everybody will find them appealing. If you’re on the fence try the demo first, it’s a relatively small download (70 megs).
To me it is easily worth 4 bucks.
The Soldak site describes it as:
Depths of Peril is a single player action RPG with strong strategy elements. You play as a faction leader protecting the barbarian city, Jorvik, by destroying threatening monsters and completing quests. At the same time, you compete with rival factions to see who will rule the city. Barbarians choose their leaders by fighting to the death!

I like FEAR a lot, but they are quite linear because of scripting and such. I don’t think I’ve played the 3rd one, but I liked the first one better than the second one. I really liked the first one a lot. Some thought it was a bit too repetitious, but I disagree, even though I understand why people think that. Anyway, play them in order.
Well. Creepy Watson -was- also in The Awakened, but then they remastered it and one of the additions was movement for Watson. And that version is what’s on Steam.

What’s lost in all the talk of creepy Watson is that he is your friend. He only uses his powers for good!
