That’s also a fair point. I’ve taken to putting most of my Goozex list on hold because I kept getting games well before I was ready to play them, and then they’d drop in point value about 40%.

Part of my problem is that I just really don’t like shooters that much. Strategy games are more my thing, which is why I’m re-playing the hell out of Space Rangers 2 when I’ve got a couple of console shooters lying around from Goozex that I just really don’t want to play. To work for me, a shooter has to have a strong component of something else, preferably RPG like Deus Ex 3 or Fallout New Vegas.

Yeah, you have to watch this with the Amazon sales as well. Games that might’ve been more deeply discounted prior to the sale sometimes see a price increase during such sales.

Seriously, the condescending attitude blows. Particularly when you seem to be aware of the problem with Amazon’s list.

It’s not getting three great older games that’s difficult. It’s getting three great older games that I haven’t played. New Vegas, Borderlands, God Of War, Resistance 1, Fallout 3, Deus Ex 3, Civilization Revolution, I own all of those.

Yeah, this is my “problem” as well. Heck, RAGE is on the list, but I already own that as well. I have held off on buying the newer games I listed above, but of course they’re not included in the deal. Even if two of the three I want were on the list, I’d go with Resistance 3 to round it out.

Edit: Forza 4 being on the list would also be acceptable.

Oh, FFS, Gus. I wasn’t being condescending. A list of 825 games was posted and your response was that you could only find one game you wanted, with no further comment (until later). Chill out already.

EDIT: You know, looking back at our past interactions you seem to automatically assume I’m trying to offend you every time I respond to one of your posts (which is never my intent), so I’ll just make sure in the future to leave you the hell alone.

That really is an issue on your end. Not on Amazon’s.

Steam’s on fire today, with two great deals:

Bastion for $7.50
Evil Genius for $2.50

K-Mart is at it again. Uncharted 3 with $20 gaming coupon. I was going to use the $30 coupon from Batman to get this game, until I read Tom’s not-so-positive comments on the front page. Might use it on Skyrim instead.

I skipped Uncharted 3 for now, but if you liked Uncharted 2, I wouldn’t let Tom’s impressions stop you from playing 3. Uncharted’s brand of highly scripted, constrained shooting is just way outside of Tom’s usual happy place.

In fairness to Tom, he liked the first two Uncharted game (see his comments starting here). I’m certainly not letting his dislike of Uncharted 3 get in the way of me getting it day one, but if he doesn’t like it it’s because he views it as a letdown compared to the other Uncharted games, not because he doesn’t like the series.

Binding of Isaac and Blocks That Matter are now added to the Humble Voxatron Bundle.

Bastion is on sale for Steam’s midweek madness! 50% off - $7.50

I notice that Tom was specifically talking about the characters, writing and plot, not the actual game mechanics. I expect that those things broke down for Tom in Uncharted 3, leaving the game to survive on its mechanics alone. I suspect that it has failed to do so thus far. Of course that’s complete speculation based only on what Tom has showed a penchant for in the past. We’re certainly going to find out, but my early money is on him finding the plot/characters to not be enough to support the extremely linear shooting and platforming.

$7.50 for Bastion? Yes, please.

His Uncharted 2 review generally supports your thesis, though he says he enjoys the gunplay. But he also thinks Uncharted 1 is better than 2, which to me is completely backwards (I thought the first one was an interminable slog, though a good looking one, at least at the time).

Had a hard time finding some Xbox games to buy on the Amazon sale but finally decided to get Dante’s Inferno, Saints Row Double Pack, and Sacred 2 for $40. I think it’s only worth it if you find cheap old games you haven’t played.

I also jumped on Bastion without thinking twice.

Aww crap, I don’t really want to buy more stuff but I want to play this and that’s a great price. Curse you Steam!

It is. There is a thread on the game’s Steam forum describing how to apply all these patches and how to make the game run on Win 7 and/or troubleshoot it.

[edit] I am talking about the Vampire game. :)

Good lord people, it’s not like getting Bloodlines working on a modern system is full of arcane crap like a Falcon dance, or anything. You install Bloodlines, you install a flavor of Wesp’s patch, and you’re done.

This board should have a sticky for “how I quit worrying about patching game x” thread. Top two candidates: Bloodlines, and Precursors.

Tragically I can’t use TC any longer to get close to my opinion of a games’ value to myself. He combines this precise surgeon’s scalpel to distill the essence of whatever is novel or broken in a game, which is great, with an undercurrent of total boredom of gaming in general. So platform and age agnostic that he’ll happily while away time supporting some kids game as much as something more mature, because to his blossoming indie-film critic sensibilities, all games are a joke if you take them seriously. So half the games I’ve bought on his recommendation are self aware games that are good on some level but not something I want to spend slot of time with playing.
