It is part of Gold, even though it was a stand-alone. Great deal!

Also of note - I successfully used this in Australia without any mucking around with proxies /VPN etc.

Beats the $90 they want for it in steam! (and yes it is a steam game)

This is one of the main reasons the game was doomed.
The other two?

[li]The space setting.[/li][li]It was made by Futuremark. Stick to benchmarking tools guys.[/li][/ul]

I picked up Shattered Horizon (wandering through a few zero-G environments is worth $5 to me) and it came with three guest passes, which I think entitle the bearer to three days of the game. If anyone is interested, PM me and I’ll send one over.

OK, so after an hour and a half of playing, here’s my Shattered Horizon review!

Basically, there are probably two good ways to play it: space tourist (single player with no bots), and small-team deathmatch. The game supports up to 32 players and Battlefield-like game modes, but they don’t really fit the maps very well (it’s too chaotic and lethal). Team deathmatch with 3-6 players per side felt good–few enough players that you weren’t getting shot every second, with the nice claustrophobic tension zero-gravity should provide.

There are a lot of nice touches, like the fact that the sniper rifle is near-useless unless docked to a surface to steady your aim, or the fact that you can shut down nonessential suit systems to “go dark” and become less visible to the enemy. The grenades are also interesting, none doing direct damage, but blinding enemies, frying suits, creating decoys, etc.

It’s probably not going to replace my current bot shooter (Section 8: Prejudice) but it’s interesting and I’ll definitely keep playing it for it’s zero-G controls and strong sense of atmosphere.

I think Futuremark missed many opportunities to make Shattered Horizon into something that could be really fun and attract players.

So, in other words they… missed the mark.

YYYEEEAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!

They didn’t say they would hit it now. The plan is for the future.

So what good DirectX 10 or even 11 games are out there now? I have a decent video card and a decent system. DDO is DX 10 isn’t it? What else?

Just Cause 2

Green Man Gaming is offering Men of War: Red Tide for 100% off, apparently to celebrate their launch in Czechoslovakia or some such. Head to this page. You’ll need a GMG account, which I find is worth it since they do offer deals and the occasional free game.

The Steam Daily Deal for November 5th is Fortix 2 for $2.50 (75% off). For some reason this seems familiar – was it a daily deal before?

I think the first one was(is?) selling for 99 cents recently. Dunno about part 2. Either Dawn Falcon or Rachael Brown mentioned it somewhere around here, I forget which one because I get them confused.

Gunstringer is tempting …

Thanks for the heads up.

That only support DX10/11, or that have that mode as an option? Because there are virtually none of the former and plenty that do good stuff with DX10/11 if you have the system for it (e.g. Metro 2033, the most recent two Stalkers, etc).

Crysis 2 with the DX11 patch?

Is BF3 too obvious?

I’ve been buying alot from Greenman lately. They seem to be very Aussie friendly. Thanks Locker K and Talorc.

Thanks a lot Dawn. I told you we shouldn’t wear the same dresses on the same day.
