I’m a huge fan of GamersGate, as they’ve gotten some awesome European space games before other DD platforms. They also stole my heart when they were the only place to get the fantastic Parkan II, a game I’d been awaiting for years.

Yeah, the no-client thing is why I stick with both GamersGate and Direct2Drive alongside Steam.
Lacking a client is a negative, not a positive. So, what, you have to download and install patches manually? Did we lose a war?
Hometown Hero is a couple years old now.
Any advice on getting space rangers 1 and space rangers 2 on the GOG sale? Or should I wait for a steam sale seeing that steam is going to have a sale pretty soon. And is both the games any good? Thanks in advance

I would just get space rangers 2 reboot and wait for the steam sale.
The evil gnomes at EA/Origin have a couple of deals. No direct links due to their fancy web site shenanigans but you should be able to indirectly get to them with this link.
Deal #1: Buy any game in November and get a $10 discount on any game purchased in December for $30 or more.
That may seem kind of meh but Origin is also offering the following games for $9.99 until December 25th, so you could combine the deals and effectively get a free game, provided you pony up at least $30 for one in December:
The Sims™ 3 Outdoor Living Stuff
The Sims™ 2 Apartment Life
The Sims™ Medieval™
Need for Speed™ SHIFT
Mass Effect™ 2 Digital Deluxe Edition
Battlefield: Bad Company™2
FIFA Soccer 11
Dragon Age™ II
Littlest Pet Shop™
The ™ come free of charge!
I really liked the single player of Bad Company 2 (though not quite as much as BC1).
I’ve been waiting for Sims Medieval to come down in price, and yet I’m hesitant. I just don’t know how much I’ll like that game.
You can ignore Space Rangers 1. It’s a subset of Space Rangers 2 in every way.
Space Rangers 2 is something of a niche game, but if you’re part of the target audience, it’s fantastic. Steam says I have over 400 hours into the game, so it’s a bargain whether you wait for a sale or not.
Do get the Reboot version from steam, instead of the base version from GOG, as I said upthread. The improved search box alone makes a huge difference in how you experience the game. Finding good parts and better hulls is a big part of the game, and being able to search by part / hull characteristics instead of just by name changes the game a lot.
Today is November 19th and while voters in Vancouver probably won’t be bothering to vote, maybe they will be buying Steam’s Daily Deal instead, which is Hydrophobia: Prophecy for $2.25 (75% off). Prophecy is “the ultimate version of this jaw-dropping action-adventure set onboard a floating city, where terrorists take control and heroine Kate has to overcome her haunting childhood memories to fight back using all her skills and expertise as a systems engineer.” Haunting and jaw-dropping!
Amazone has the Warhammer II (RTS) Gold pack (Original game, Chaos Rising expansion) for $5. It apparently registers on Steam too.

This is a download, just to make it 100% clear.

Also, it’s Dawn of War II. I thought at first it was some Warhammer Fantasy game.

Steam has Magicka plus a bunch of DLC for $6.24 (US). I’m tempted but only really interested in the single-player bit, anyone have opinions on whether this is worthwhile? From the Magicka thread it looks like they just updated the base game to add in save checkpoints, which I remember being a complaint from reviews when it first came out.

Why don’t you try it for yourself? It’s free-to-play all weekend.

Well I did vote yesterday, so I guess I’m officially a minority now.
Is the general consensus on Origin that it’s the worst and the people behind it are the purest of evils? Or has that blown over?
(I haven’t had a computer worth gaming on in years. These things elude me! But DA2 for free seems like an OK deal if I’m getting Batman anyway.)

I wouldn’t install it. Unless the new starwars game needs it then I will do it but under great duress!
This was overblown from the start. Origin is fine. If you want a game on their service you should not hesitate. Is it as good as Steam? Not even close. But it’s fine and it shouldn’t prevent you from downloading Star Wars or what have you.
