Is Get Games a new Steam / GamersGate / etc competitor? I’ve never heard of it before, and they don’t say anything about getting Steam keys for what you buy.

Well, with this Introversion bundle, I have all of the games already due to a bundle I bought on Steam a while back.

Steam deal today is BASTION@ $4.99

SOLD!

Cool, I guess I’ll try to squeeze this in before the end of the year.

I. Love. This. Game. Such an artfully presented cohesive morsel of goodness. Consider the soundtrack as well; preview here.

Quick question on Bastion: After my experience with Renegade Ops, I am hesitant to pick up games that ‘play best with a gamepad’ because that sometimes means ‘Xbox 360 controller’, which I don’t have (I’ve got a Logitech RumblePad). Does Bastion play nice with non-360 gamepads?

It may be well worth getting a 360 pad. You should be able to pick up a nice wired one for relatively cheap these days.

Then again, I’ve never liked the PS3/Logitech layout.

Man, an authentic, new X-Box 360 Wired Controller still retails for $40.

Also, they’re not easy to find. Target sells 'em online only!

Exactly… don’t you know that cheap bastards inhabit the Bargain Thread?

Bastion was Logitech’s Gamepad Game of the Week on Facebook, but someone at the link complained about it not working with the cordless Rumblepad 2. I’ve heard elsewhere that Xpadder or a 360 controller emulator will also work, in general.

I finished Bastion without problem with mouse and keyboard, it’s not as “play best with gamepad” as Renegade Ops.

Sorry to be the one to say it, but seriously, getting a wired 360 controller for my PC was one of the best investments I’ve made in the past three years.

Almost every single game supports it, it’s a solid controller, and you’ll never have to worry if your rumblepad will work again.

THIS.

And the 360 controller is $30 on Amazon, not $40.

What Bahimiron said. A 360 controller is not in my budget currently.

Wade, thanks for the info. Unfortunately I have a cordless RumblePad 2. I may pick up Bastion anyway and put it in the backlog for the time being.

I tried an emulator with Renegade Ops and found my patience for fussing around trying to get these things working has dropped to basically zero these days. I have too many other games that just work.

Anyway, back to the bargains!

Yeah…using any other gamepad other than the wired 360 is an invitation for fussing with it.

I think you just found $5 for your controller budget!

Anyway, back to the bargains!
That was a really good try.

Indeed. After so many years of fussing with joystick calibration, USB dongles designed to let me use a PS2 controller with my PC, or oddly mapped buttons on 3rd party controllers, the wired 360 controller is a breath of fresh air. The kids are not allowed to take it out of my office if their wireless batteries die – it’s MINE.

The wireless adapter works fine as well. I bought it originally because I wanted wireless control of my telescope, and I have software that lets me slew the mount and change focus using a gamepad. So far the only PC game I’ve used it for was Arkham Asylum, but that game gave all the buttons a workout, so there’s no question it works just fine.

The Saitek Cyborg V.5 Rumble Pad works fine, too – but it was designed for 100% 360 compatibility, even licensed by Microsoft for the actual console.

Don’t buy a NEO Se 360 controller knockoff. Shit sucks for so many stupid reasons I won’t bother to detail unless you’ve decided to buy one (for starters, the rubber on the thumbsticks has eroded/crumbled/rubbed off and revealed uncomfortable hard plastic).
