Battlefield 3 from Amazon for 34.99 minus 5 for my Amazon $5 gift card. 29.99 for a great game, maybe it will make up for my jumping too early into Skyrim (why do I always fall for it Elders Scroll games…)
Well, turns out not to be the case. Nuclear Dawn on Amazon for $4 also gets you a $5 off discount code. So Amazon wins for now.

Are any of the games on the steam sale today worth getting? I was looking at cities in motion and prince of persia. I do not want to buy a bunch of medicore games, no matter how cheap they are. I loaded up on a bunch of cheap games from the summer sale and nearly all of the ones I took a chance on simply because they were really cheap weren’t even worth the time it took to download. I do not want to repeat that again.
I must say, this steam christmas sale has been the most disappointing sale I have ever seen. The best deal I have seen so far, was Deus Ex 3 for 9.99 and that was from Amazon.
I’d check out Bastion (still a daily sale for another hour where I am). Steam has a demo.
The first Prince of Persia (Sands of Time) is great. Two Thrones is also pretty good. I’d personally skip the rest.
Don’t know about Cities in Motion, but with a 70 metascore, it’s more likely to be skippable than misunderstood.
Edit: Speaking of bargains, the PC download version of Civ IV + expansion packs is $8.50 on Amazon today. Steam price is $15.
Be aware that The Forgotten Sands has the nasty Ubisoft DRM that requires you to be connected to the internet at all times during play. Fcking annoying. If it’s so great, why don’t they put it on all their games? A one-time activation I can deal with, but that always-on sht goes beyond the pale.

Cities in motion is a good game, but very niche. If the idea of building a public transportation system (the system itself as well as the business of making it turn a profit) interests you in the slightest, you should consider buying the game or at least trying the demo. Graphics are good too.
Once again, my take on the Prince of Persia series, none of which I played on PC, so take that into consideration (since I’m not familiar with how well the porting/controls go over on PC):
Prince of Persia: Sands of Time - Excellent game, nice story, gameplay is a little simple once you get in the flow. You’ll finish the game in no time once you get the hang of it.
Prince of Persia: Warrior Within - Starts horribly with a metal bikini chick boss and heavy metal soundtrack, but turns into one of the best games in the series if you stick with it. The gameplay is superior to Sands of Time in every respect. The combat is tougher, but more importantly the platforming sequences are more complex, harder and more satisfying to complete.
Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones. I hated this one. It relies heavily on a QTE mechanic where, after you’ve taken all the effort to meticulously get behind an enemy, you still can’t kill him without first going through a series of button presses that have to be precisely timed with on-screen prompts. I was terrible at this and so constantly had to get into normal combat and couldn’t make it very far in the game.
Prince of Persia - The Reboot is a perfect standalone game with satisfying platforming and a wonderful story. The combat system, just like all the Prince of Persia games, isn’t all that great. Up there with the original Mass Effect as one of the few games with a wonderful story and an amazing ending.
Prince of Persia: Forgotten Sands - Again, kind of weak combat, but great platforming and an okay story that provides a good excuse to get through the game.
For anyone that loves the Platforming in any of the modern Ubisoft Prince of Persia games, I’d recommend all the games except for Two Thrones, whose enjoyment will depend on how good you are at pressing a button with lightning fast reflexes when the screen tells you to press the button.
Does anyone know if Warrior Within on Steam works all right on modern machines? I was put off by the whole XTreeeeme thrasher metal aesthetic, but could tell that the combat was pretty good–how well (if at all) does it work with a 360 gamepad (since I think that trying to play with a mouse and keyboard will be an exercise in frustration)?
Also, does Warrior Within have any stooopidly placed save checkpoints like the one in Two Thrones where you’re forced to watch a 30 second long cutscene right before a particularly difficult boss battle (I swear if I ever meet the idiot who came up with that one I’m going to punch him in the nose)?

I’ll plus one this recommendation. It played fine on my PC, though I did use an XBox controller. There is nothing terribly challenging about the game, it doesn’t require reflexes like a cat. The interaction between the Prince and Elika through the whole game made it one which I thoroughly enjoyed. Think of it as a casual game, and with some slight grinding (for want of a better word) which involves going back through completed levels to collect light seeds and unlocking new areas, the game can easily be finished in about 10 hours.
Cities in Motion is indeed very niche. Don’t go looking for a game similar to Transport Tycoon, Locomotion or even Sim City. The cityscapes played on are fairly static - they will add buildings over the years, irrespective of what you do. It really is quite simply setting up transit lines and moving passengers around the map. It is also quite a difficult game, though I haven’t touched it in a few patches. Not sure what the traffic situation is like now. I do enjoy it, when I play it, however I find it a harder game to recommend.

Dungeon Siege 3 is $5 at Amazon.
Just Cause 2 is $2.50
Kane and Lynch 2 is also $2.50.
Dungeon Siege 3 activates on Steam, don’t know if the other two do.
Looks like serious sam 3 and Red Orchestra 2 are about 12.00 over at getgamesgo
I’ve bought from them before with no issues… Sorry the forums won’t let me post links yet…
Wow - Dungeon Siege 3 comes with a $5 promo code…that effectively makes it a free game!

It’s some sort of limited use promo against certain “big” games going by the wording, but regardless, $5 for DS3 seems like a bargain. In.
Walmart sure doesn’t have any (PC) bargains here in Canada. Stopped in for their boxing day sale. They only carried Starcraft (original) battle chest @ $25, warcraft 3 battle chest & world of warcrafts. Is their selection as poor for you folks in other countries?
Thanks!! Skipped. :\
PC download of the regular edition of Deus Ex: Human Revolution is $16 on Amazon. Activates on Steam. Not as good as the price they had a few days ago, but still pretty nice if you missed the earlier sale.

Be careful ordering from getgamesgo. Every steam code they have given me (3 tries in the past) have not worked. The credit card does not get subsequently charged, but it’s really annoying.
