I tried the demo when it came out and was convinced not to buy. What annoyed me is that you couldn’t move the camera, so it was impossible to plan ahead or even see some of the obstacles / loot etc.

Off course I’m lazy when it comes to games.

You can switch to the bird and fly around the entire map at your leisure. :)

Well, that was obvious.

Also, right and left shoulder rotates the camera 30-40 degrees.

Amazon has the download versions of Space Marine and Dead Island for $40. Both are Steamworks games.

Steam Daily Deal for September 6 is Cloning Clyde for $1.66 (67% off).

Midweek madness titles are the Kane and Lynch and Hitman series.

Blood Money for 66% off is an incredible price for a great game.

Is the PC port good? I have a (backlogged) copy for 360, but might just play the PC version instead. Are the other Hitman games worth a look, or are they dated by now?

I don’t think the PC version of Blood Money is the “port”, cap’n.

So, yeah, it runs fantastic.

Older versions are also still good, although the controls may be a tad clunky.

From my understanding, the original Hitman is kind of buggy and underwhelming, but I can confirm Hitman 2 to be good stuff, and Hitman: Contracts apparently revisits the best of Hitman 1’s levels with improved design and polish. Unfortunately, that one’s not on Steam, apparently because of some music licensing issue.

Kane & Lynch 2 is a fantastic little TPS, with a very strong esthetic… It feels like a snuff movie, it breathes despair, Shangaï is a hellpit, and at 5 € or so it’s a must.

There’s your pull quote right there!

The visuals are seriously worth seeing. Just the way they make the game look like it’s being shot through a handy cam is amazing. I got stuck in one spot but I DO plan to go back and try to finish. The gun play is fun as well.

And yes, the Shanghai depicted in this game is the most depressing shit hole I’ve ever seen. :) Great setting for a game…

Any need to play the first one to get the story etc?

No. In fact, I’d tell everyone to skip the first one.

The sequel at least tries to do something different by being set in a grimy Shanghai and having the presentation mimic a handheld digi-cam.

So the first is not good, the second is the same but has an interesting location and camera?
Not the most enthusiastic endorsement.

The first isn’t terrible. It’s just not great. Like I said, the second at least tries something different.

I also love the way the game uses everyday places like a fast food joint, a busy freeway or a street with small shops, and turns them into battlefields.
It’s a short solo game, around 4-6 hours, but it’s pretty intense because they trimmed the fat (well except on the protagonists).

A game with gross protagonists, a shocking esthetic and everyday places… In its way K & L 2 is a bit this gen’s Duke 3D. It was destroyed by the press when it was released, but it has acquired a sort of cult following… Granted, at full price, the package was rather thin, but at that bargain price the short playtime is almost a quality : it won’t rot in your backlog for long.

If you can stomach the style, there’s an Actionbutton piece that explains pretty well why the game is great.

As for the first one, i don’t know, I bought it during a Steam sale but never installed it, oops.

The first was forgettable. The second is great. The only reason it was never worth full price is because it’s super-short. At this sale price it’s a no-brainer. I would go so far as to call it an excellent little action game. I was very pleasantly surprised by it.

The first one is pretty bad. I just finished playing through it a couple weeks ago. It is too long and feels sloppy.

The second game does a lot to correct the problems of the first. I think the best thing they did was to give it a much tighter focus in the setting. The first game has you hopping all over the world with none of the settings feeling really fleshed out. K&L2 is set entirely in Shanghai and does a great job of making that place feel alive and lived in. I’ve played through K&L2 three times and I still want to play it more. It’s a blast to play co-op if you can get someone else to drop on it.

Also! If you can get at least four people together for an MP game there are some really cool modes. I’ve only had the opportunity to play the MP a few times but it’s always been a blast. Too bad the MP setup interface is terrible.
