My PS3 lets me pay for things in money.
That doesn’t last long though, at least not for me. Filling out a survey every month gets you 20 MS points, doing a few searches every day on bing earns me 100 MS points every month or so, picking up a free Xbox Live Dr. Pepper Cup from my local convenience/gas station with some water in it lets me add 125 MS points every time.
I guess I’m always getting a constant trickle of free points, so I don’t really think about it. Whenever I dip below 800 or 400, it does suck for a week or so, but then it goes above that point again. I just have to wait until the next freebie kicks in.

Oooo, thanks for the reminder! Haven’t done the survey this month yet.

It turns out that free Assassin’s Creed game was a “pricing mistake” and they’re removing it from everyone’s accounts and giving a 50% off code instead.
Ha. I’m glad I didn’t give them all my personal information.

It still wasn’t enough to get me to install uPlay anyway. Nice try Ubisoft.
Ah the benefits of digital distribution…
Amazon’s starting to mark down some Sega games to close out their Labor Day deals. I think these are one day only, so fair warning.
Binary Domain is back at $10.
Renegade Ops is $3.75.
Both are Steam activatable.
I got Binary Domain during the last post-steam sale steam sale and … eh. I dunno if I am going to get 10 bucks out of it, at least from playing the first couple of chapters.
Renegade Ops though, wow! Did I mention that it is fucking awesome? I think I did.

There’s definitely a fan contingent of Binary Domain on Qt3. If you like third person shooters at all, it’s hard for me to imagine someone not getting $10 of entertainment out of it.
Also, GOG is selling a bunch of point and click adventures this weekend, (from Wadjet Eye and Amanita Games) including the fairly-new Resonance for $5.
NeoGAF also likes Binary Domain judging from the posts during the Amazon.com Summer Sales thread over there.
Binary domain was one of the best third person shooters released in a long long long long time. I can’t think of a better 3rd person shooter at the moment off the top of my head (although i am sure there is one if you go back far enough).
Great gameplay married to Japanese style bosses (although without being too mechanically impossible) and a focus on strong narrative.
GMG has price matched Amazon on XCOM Enemy Unknown.
$44.99
I really didn’t enjoy what I played - I gritted my teeth up through the chapter where you first put your chosen team together and then dropped it. Way too many cutscenes, way too easy, way too much focus on Dragon’s Lair-ish set pieces that insist you do-the-script-the-way-we-want-or-game-over. I mean it’s to a point where literally twice in a row there was a cutscene introducing a bigger robot, killed him, picked up a big gun from it, and then was immediately thrown into yet another cutscene, and would find that no, I was scripted not to have picked up the gun so I didn’t have it coming out of the conversation. I think the exact point I dropped it was when I realised that the goofy voice command system thing was not some random silly idea but was actually going to be something they would insist on me doing for the entire rest of the game. Nothing like a bit of bland, too-easy shooting in a big grey generic post apocalyptic setting with the added bonus of a 30 second unskippable/hurryable walk and talk between every other fight that will require me to manage people’s fee-fees.
So yeah apparently I liked it even less than I thought :)
Also, if you picked up the free game, Greed Black Border, from GMG a few weeks ago, they have a trade-in special that brings XCOM down to $37.99.
hmm the front page says that if i trade greed in and get xcom it is 6.50 off, but when i actually go to checkout, it says just 0.50 off.
Edit: worked. I removed greed for being traded in, cleared my cart and went directly from the promotion link on right and it noticed it. Bought. Faith in GMG somewhat renewed.
