None of the DLC is necessary, I’d say. The season pass is the only one that adds substantive content, and a couple of the weapon packs can be fun, but absolutely none of it is required to thoroughly enjoy the game and I don’t think I even touched any of the DLC missions or equipment until after the base game was out of the way.

Cool, good to know. I like how one can try it out for free this weekend too. DEFINITELY giving it a shot.

The Shark Attack DLC is a must have. The Money Shot pack is pretty nice too, for the fully auto sniper rifle.

Some killer games on sale at GOG.com today:

Outcast (An overlooked favorite)
Master of Orion 1+2
Master of Magic
Rollercoaster Tycoon
Total Annihilation (not a fan myself, but others are)
[B]Colonization /B
Sid Meier’s Pirates! Gold (the definitive “old” version)
Alone In Dark 1+2+3
Desperados

Anyone own the GoG version of Master of Magic? Does it play fine in Windows 7/64?

Bought it there ages ago and yes it runs fine.

I’ve had no problems running in in W7/64.

I haven’t had trouble with it on my rig. I’ve played around with it for an hour or two.

Awesome, thanks guys. At $2.30 how can I NOT buy it?! =)

You must buy it. It is a moral imperative;)

I know there are already 3 responses to this, but I thought I’d just add that it uses DosBox, so as long as you’ve run a game via that successfully in the past it won’t be an issue. It’s a pretty solid emulator, so I don’t think anyone is having issues with it, but there you go.

I ran the GoG-wrapped-in-DosBox version for a whole game from start to completion on my laptop during a work trip some time ago.

Because it runs in DOSBOX at 320x200 and it makes my eyes bleed?

Sorry. I just can’t go back that far.

If it would run at a high resolution, then everything would be super-tiny and you couldn’t see anything.

Darklands is part of the $2.30 super sale on GoG. Talk about a fantastic game that will make your modern-game-playing eyes bleed. Even the screenshots are painful to look at, but man, so much depth and content for the time.

That’s the problem I had with it, that things are represented by so few pixels, I had a tough time telling what things are. Going to a higher resolution wouldn’t help that.

Green Man Gaming has a deal for $8 off Xcom. They’re using a trade-in trick. Get Age of Fear for free and trade it in for $8 off the discounted price of $44. Xcom for $36!

Is that the game that was talked about briefly on the Qt3 podcast around the time of the GOG release a while back? That sounded really interesting and it is a rare classic that I’d never heard of before the GOG release. How big a part are the graphics? Is the tale mostly conveyed through text or graphics?

A fairly even mix? Combat is graphical, iirc, similar to the old Gold Box games.

It’s… it’s rough.

Edit - it’s also deep. You’re going to need to spend some quality time with the manual.

Understatement of the year. It’s very deep, even creating a balanced party to stand any chance at the start requires lots of manual reading. However, don’t let that put you off, it’s a classic.

I love the look of these games. It really brings me back, makes me reminisce.

Master of Magic still looks awesome to me. It’s low res and wonderful. Played it a year and a half ago last.

Yeah, I might have my rose-tinted glasses on. :)
