Bastion at GMG for $3.75. Ends Saturday 12:00 UTC.

Supposedly it’ll be coming back for a bit at $10 in a day or two

Live now, Xcom for $32.50

Chivalry is cheaper than a 4 pack copy on GMG with that code, think I am gonna bite. :)

“The voucher code you entered is invalid.”

Edit: Oh sure, now it works.

Make it $30 with GMG25-UAAHK-6AI9S

On GMG

Final prices

Chivalry: $16.24
Borderlands 2: $34.44
XCOM: $32.49

Voucher Code: GMG35-5BRU6-ZDRX7

So what’s the guess about XCOM and the coming Steam holiday sale? Not likely to be much lower than $32.49 or is a 50% off Steam sale likely? I should probably reward GMG with my dollars since they offer such good deals on new games but I’ll kick myself if Steam has XCOM for 75% off.

I’d be shocked if XCom goes significantly cheaper than that unless it’s a Black Friday loss leader. I’ve been waiting on a deal as I already own the 360 version, but that’s cheap enough. I’m biting.

Holding off on a game as awesome as XCom for the sake of another $5 is silly. Give the developers a few bucks for their hard work. :)

50% off is the deepest it’ll go, IMO.

seconded.

I keep looking at all my other options and then I just load up XCom and run a few missions and I have finished it once on normal.

Yeah, I just bought it (and then lost $5 of the savings on the DLC I got free with my 360 version that I don’t want to do without) just so I can play it on my laptop when others are hogging the TV. Such a great game…

Miner Wars 2081 is $6.25 this weekend on Desura (75% off). But I can’t seem to dig up much recent information on this one. It’s apparently an open-world Descent/Red Faction hybrid and looks promising from the few clips I’ve watched. But it’s apparently moderately buggy, and it’s not clear how much development resources are being put into this one, since the developer is also working on an MMO based in this universe. I’ve played around with the demo, but it’s apparently a pretty small slice of the game. The game also requires an always-on Internet connection.

Is XCom repetitive? I never played the original and am interested in giving it a go, but am afraid it looks like it could get boring. Is it like the original Warhammer: Dawn of War II, where the missions are all pretty much the same?

I would say that you will get at least a couple of replays before you move on. It’s not repetitive just like how Civ V is not repetitive but I can’t see myself replaying Civ V 10 times… YMMV.

I thought it was good for one play through, then I shelved it. I did enjoy the time I spent with it but the battles felt very similar with each other. I wish I waited until it was a $20 game.

I’d completely disagree.

The game starts to become repetitive near the end of the first playthrough, without a doubt it will be on further playthroughs. The game has very limited replayability, even many of the bigger fans of this one haven’t been able to replay it.

This is a combination of problems. Map variation being very low and somewhat repeated is one. Every ufo mission is almost exactly the same for example.

The bigger thing for me though is how it feels like you’re doing 30 scripted ground combat missions instead of controlling things from the geoscape and fighting ground battles as a result of your inability to stop the aliens from landing. The missions aren’t even good either, just basic, generic crap.

The DoW2 example is pretty good. The maps aren’t completely the same, but they might as well be as for the most part you will not find anything exceptional or interesting in them to make you think “wow this one is really cool.” Still, for your first play through, experiencing new things, getting new tech and meeting new aliens (and killing them) will tide you over for one game.

I don’t regret buying it for like $20-30 from GMG. I would not have paid much more for it knowing what i know now. Maybe $40 max when i was still feeling hyped that they were making a somewhat faithful sequel to xcom instead of that childhood raping 3rd person shooter.

Did anyone buy this? Does it come with 3 separate keys, or is it all tied up in one/

Thanks for the feedback re:XCom. Thinking I’ll wait on it for now, as I’m super sensitive to repetitive stuff. I really need to lower my enjoyment threshold…

Thanks for the head up on the voucher code for Xcom. I had been holding off and this pushed me over the edge. Been looking forward to playing it.
