Have you guys talked to your banks? The first time I tried to order anything from GMG it was denied and my bank called me right away with a fraud alert. I told them the charge was just fine and that it was me, and they said OK try again in ten minutes. Since then I haven’t had a problem.

Somebody let it slip that Steam will start its autumn sale tomorrow. Last year, they waited until Black Friday. This time, it starts the day before Thanksgiving. But during the summer sale, most if not all discounts were repeated. So you’re unlikely to miss something this time, if you’re stuck on a plane Thursday without Internet access or something.

GMG blew up my card twice (out of four purchases, I think), requiring the old, “Yes, that’s my purchase” call. That’s why I put the SecureCode on my MC. That’s also why I have PayPal as an alternate. GMG is taking neither now, and I cannot be arsed to fuck with these guys any more, stupid prices or not. I’ll wait for the Steam sale.

Interesting re: GMG and payment. I’ve only ever bought one thing from them (apart from free game “purchases”), and that was Dead Island in August of last year. No problems at all (I probably used Paypal).

I always use Paypal, so that cuts down on the bank battles. Unfortunately, that doesn’t change the fact that the GMG servers seem to be complete crap. I’ve gotten errors a lot on that site.

First time I tried to use GMG my CC denied payment. Once I called them to tell them I really did want to buy Secret of the Magic Crystals with Virtual Her Majesty’s Queen Bucks, they were fine and I’ve had no problem since.

My bank declined the first order from GMG also. I called them up and said it was legitimate, and they let it go through. It’s worked fine ever since.

I’ve not had a single problem with a US credit card at GMG. I think I’ve made 4-5 purchases there, no issues. Sounds very much like YMMV, which is not great for a retailer.

Re Distant Worlds: I wish they rolled the patch changes into the base game so I could see if I’d really like it w/o committing fully. Alas.

Yeah. Didn’t you say the expansions have a ton of changes that deal with the most annoying and possibly broken things from the original game? Both UI and game system-wise.
