Yeah, same. Bulletstorm and Dragon Age 2 were 5 bucks and I snagged them too. Oh and Battlefield 3 was on sale for a tenner. Amalur was cheap too so …
Origin is actually way faster than Steam for whatever reason. Steam’s become vastly bloated, even if I like the community-focused additions. The performance has not kept up with feature creep.
'course it’ll happen to Origin too at some point, but at the moment it’s very very snappy. Game -> launch -> play in 5 seconds.
Probably a collector’s mentality. Your collection isn’t complete until you have the DRM-free GOG versions.
You don’t hoard, do you? Will we see you on a reality TV show someday?
I can see them opening the closet door and seeing copies of Freespace stacked to the ceiling.
edit - Which would be kind of amusing, come to think of it.
Well, from the Qt3 podcasts, I know that Guild Wars 2’s combat works enough like other MMOs that I would probably not enjoy the game. I think one of the most damning things that Tom said about it (although he meant it as a compliment) is that the combat shouldn’t be judged based on just the first few hours, since it unfolds over time into something better later. That’s another thing I can’t stand about MMOs: the idea that I would have to play a game for hours before the fundamental basic combat minute-to-minute gameplay gets good. If the most basic gameplay isn’t good in the first hour, I don’t want to play it for that first hour. That was fine before marriage when I had multiple hours to spend on games, but not after.
Ugh, and I see GOG’s gone back to the “you only get the really low price for what you do want if you buy a bunch of shit you don’t want” policy. I was thinking of just getting Thief Gold and Thief II, but no…
Keep an eye out though. I noticed on Day 3’s sale that they didn’t have that stipulation. Every game in the selection just had the discount.
I hate that the previous days’ sales posts just disappear though. Now I don’t even know if I missed something good on Day 2.
All I can say is that you are not authorized to purchase Thief again unless you’ve already purchased Dishonored.

Day 2 was Witcher 2 (7.50), FTL (5), and Arma 2: Combined Ops (15)

Can anybody comment on Anachronox?
I already have the Thief games (I only dipped once, though), but I don’t have them with me, and I think my laptop might be able to run at least the first 2, so those are tempting, too, but I’m mainly interested in Anachronox, as I’ve never played it.
edit: Also, Brian, you might try shooting Brooski a PM, regarding that weird part of your brain. :)

I remembered really liking Anachronox when it first came out, so I bought it when it came out on GOG. I played it for the first few hours and had a really nice time, though there was a lot of backtracking. Then I hit the first combat dungeon – nearly an hour of nothing but the game’s poor combat system. I like the writing and world a lot, but I haven’t revisited the game since. The thought of blowing another hour of my life in one of those dungeons is too depressing. Shame.
Combat wasn’t that bad in Anachronox. It’s basically your typical JRPG combat system, each character takes a turn, each enemy takes a turn, etc etc. Wrapped around it is a really fun RPG that doesn’t take itself remotely seriously.

Thanks for the input, guys. I usually don’t particularly like the JRPG style of combat, and I definitely understand what Giaddon means, as combat in those games tend to feel like a grind and a chore to me.
I decided to bite anyway, as Anachronox still sounds interesting, and I want to at least give it a chance。 If nothing else, the other games in that pack still make it more than worth the price, in my opinion. I might even replay Invisible War sometime. :)

It seems to be working here and everything activated on Steam.
Hmmmmm, tough call. It’s such a pretty yet soulless game, in my opinion. If you feel that price is worth taking the risk to see if it’s fun for you, go for it.

Chronicles of Riddick is part of the GoG sale today. I’m tempted to get it, as I think every other retailer has the version with DRM in it.

Steam’s daily deal is Defender’s Quest, an indie tower defense/RPG that has earned some pretty glowing praise around the internet, including from Rock Paper Shotgun. It’s 66% off aka ~$5. People who picked it up before Steam added it are theoretically going to get Steam keys someday, but I haven’t yet and I’m a sucker, so that was low enough to double dip. I can always gift the extra key to someone else if I get it, I suppose.
