New year, new thread… Goodbye 2012 thread, you (cost me/saved me) so much damn money…

Ok, that’s assuming I already have their $5 vouchers for the editor choice game, which sets the game to $15. It’s not like the game will go down to $15 so $20 is the best price for Absolution currently.

Hitman Absolution is not on the list, so $20 is your price on Amazon. Here’s the list of games that qualify.

lol, as has been stated previously, more stuff will be added to the list and put on promotion throughout the month. Just like last year. Example Spec Ops: The Line and The Darkness 2 will both be $2.49 after coupon on 1/2.

I just can't make mass updates because I'm getting confirmation for stuff as the month rolls on.

Cheers
Tony

From the Amazon rep guy. So its still possible for Hitman to go even lower than 20. :)

He’s all but confirmed Hitman won’t be on the list. Not sure if that was meant at its current $20 price or at all.

Before we let this thread die, I just wanted to say that this was my favorite Qt3 thread this year. This thread was the closest we had to a general purpose thread where we actually discussed a wide variety of gaming topics, and really got into the weeds this year about why certain games were people’s favorites and whether they were worth it, and what qualities they had that made them shine or not shine. Unlike all previous Bargain threads, this one was a little less strictly regulated than usual and I think it was a much better thread for it.

Goodbye Bargain Thread 2012 Edition. I shall miss thee. Hopefully the new edition this year will be just as good, and won’t just be used to describe bargains.

Come on, Rock8man, this thread is soooo last year.

Only Asians can post here now.

I’m wondering the same thing. I’ve stared at those three games many times and have yet to sort out which to try first. I think the PR games are supposed to be a little more user friendly than Patrician.

From Mr. Rod Humble in the Steam Sale thread:

Patrician 3 is a very good Euro style strategy trading management game it is essentially the same game as Port Royal 2 but in noerthern Europe rather than the Caribbean so you should pick which setting you like. I havent played much Patrician 4 yet so I cant comment but 3 is well worth a few bucks.

The biggest difference between the Port Royal and Patrician series is locale. Port Royal being set later and in the Caribbean has pirates.

Therefore Port Royal is superior.

You can get Hotline Miami for $2.49 on Amazon if you have the editor’s choice coupon they were giving away last month.

Re: Trading games. I’ve been tinkering around with these games a bit lately, and while I can’t say definitively that any of them is The Best…

Patrician 4 and Port Royale 3 are practically the same game. I’m sure that’s being unfair to a lot of small refinements between the two games, but they’re made by the same developer, use the same engine, same interfaces, same fundamental gameplay, etc. Patrician got land trade in its expansion (which I haven’t played) and PR has the colonial powers dynamic, but those are probably the two most outstanding design differences.

If you’re totally indifferent about the setting, I say pick up PR3. It’s the more recent release of the two, and the Caribbean feels to me like a more enjoyable map to play on than north Europe.

If you’re looking to play on an older system or want to spend as little as possible, Port Royale 2 does hold up pretty well. It runs on my Windows 7 64-bit system, has a decent tutorial, and as Nesrie implied earlier, is largely the same game as PR3 or Pat4.

Thanks for the comments. I am currently leaning towards Patrician 4 Gold for these reasons:

Tend to prefer a Euro setting to the Caribbean, probably from playing too many Paradox games.

Patrician 4 Gold comes with the expansion and is around half the price of the base Port Royale 3.

Patrician 3 and Port Royale 2 are really cheap, but I’m not sure I want to deal with 4:3 if I don’t have to.

Don’t forget that Port Royale 3 and DLC is on offer (75% off, plus coupon) on Greenman Gaming.

Argh thanks, how did I miss that? In the Bargain Thread and unaware of the bargains, poor show.

Well that changes things a bit, I think I’m going to go Port Royale 3.

Goodbye 2012!
