Steam this weekend: FREE WEEKEND for Tropico 4 (?!) + Cheap Company of Heroes ($10 for everything)
$13.59 for Tropico 4 from my Steam browser
It’s a free weekend; edited original post to clarify.

Considering what a pain in the ass CoH is to patch to the current version (no cumulative patches, must go point-by-point) the Steam version could be a value even for current owners.
Yeah, the base game is TWO FRIGGIN’ DOLLARS, making it the best entertainment-to-cost purchase you’ll probably be able to make all month.
Yeah, I think I’ll be gifting that to all of my friends that don’t have it yet.
I rebought CoH everything on Steam some time ago for just this reason.

Company of Heroes complete for 9.99 is an absolute steal. Potentially even worth buying extra copies of gifts, just to be ready in case you want to play with a friend who doesn’t have it in the future.
How necessary are the expansions? I remember kinda enjoying the demo of Company of Heroes back in the day, but I wasn’t really doing RTS games at the time.

First expansion (Opposing Fronts) adds the British and Panzer Elite as well as two campaigns. Second expansion adds three campaigns (one is a mini-campaign) and a total of nine units for the other factions that you can swap into their arsenals (for example, an amphibious scout vehicle for the Panzer Elite that replaces their Kettenkrad scout). The first is far more value than the second in terms of expanding your options, as only a few of the extra units in the second expansion are really worthwhile.
Definitely the first one, but use discretion on the second if you’re finding $10 a hard sell for the whole package.
Is it wrong that I want to buy that CoH bundle even though I already purchased it through Direct2Drive/Gamefly?
Yes it is wrong. Stop buying everything over and over again. Don’t you have to buy gum instead or something?
Goddammit, Rubin, it’s bad enough that you’re willing to kill the industry by buying cheap games, but to do it twice? That’s just salt in the wound.
I did that too a while ago Brian just so it’s all on Steam.
Ok, I need some quick information. Gamersgate has Batman Arkham Asylum for $5, but it says ‘Games for Window Live’.
Honestly I don’t know anything about Games for Windows Live except people have complained about it. What’s the deal with it? and should it affect my buying decision?
Gah, FINE!! :-P
That was my thought as well.
GFWL, when implemented, governs saved games, achievements (which, if you use your Xbox Live account, count towards your Gamerscore and the PC version of a game is a separate 1000 points from the 360 version), multiplayer, updates, and potentially DLC depending on where you get it. It’s a little clunky, but personally I haven’t had any issues with it in a long time and I like combining my achievements with my Xbox account. Other people have reported issues with saves being lost, GFWL breaking, etc. If you’re really that concerned there are ways to disable it, especially for Batman, which does not have multiplayer.
Ugh, I found some feedback from other customers that have used ‘Games for Windows Live’ and it’s enough to make me not want to buy this version of the game. It sounds like a nightmare service.
Thanks for the positive review. So it’s not totally broken.
