Not in my experience. It could be much better, don’t get me wrong, but once Fallout 3’s DLC became available on Steam and they’d updated it a few more times I’ve not found it to be a hindrance.

I’ve got 2 games, both on Steam, that use GFWL: Dawn of War 2 and Batman: Arkham City. After the initial setup of my GFWL account and the patching that occurs, I haven’t experienced any of the problems that I’ve read about. When I start up these games, there is a momentary pause as the system logs me in and then I’m on my way to playing. Obviously results vary from user to user. Good luck if you decide to try it out.
I took the plunge and went ahead and bought Batman:AA GotY edition for 5 bucks. It’s too good a game to pass up for that price. I played it on the 360 previously, but it just looks sooooo much better on the PC.
I just want to throw this out there as a consideration for silliness in bargains (and this price for the game set is fantastic): buying the base game and expansions as separate units from Steam saves you 2 cents from the bundle price.

It also might save your life, because if you try to patch the base game up to playability you’ll be in danger of having an aneurysm.
This means you have either:
- A really high resolution monitor for your PC.
- An Nvidia card, so you can play Batman:AA with PhysX stuff on.
My PC monitor has the same resolution as my 360 monitor and TVs, and I have an ATI card, so even though I have played through both the 360 and PC versions all the way through, it was a virtually identical experience for me. I’ll tell you what, next time I buy a new PC, I’m buying an Nvidia card, even if it costs me a lot extra.
I’m still not buying a big high resolution monitor though. I’d rather stick with the same 1080p monitor. Why give my PC rig extra work?
GOG is offering 1C games 50% off this weekend. The usual suspects. Good chance to pick up Cryostasis if you haven’t already.
I’m running it on an ATI Radeon HD 5800 card so no Phys X stuff unfortunately. The monitor I’m using is a 26 inch HDTV connected to my computer with an HDMI cord. I run all my PC games at 1360x768 and they all look uniformly great. The only exception I’ve found is Magic the Gathering 2012 which doesn’t support that resolution for some reason, but still looks decent enough.
The 360 games look like they’ve been run through a filter compared to the PC games. I can’t see the same level of detail that I see when playing on my PC.

It’s basically Microsoft’s finishing move for PC gaming / creating a reason to buy an Xbox 360.
We have a whole thread dedicated to hating GFWL.
For me, it’s been mixed. Most of the time, it’s a non-issue. I log in and that’s it. I have had a couple of games that have been absolutely awful to get working because of GFWL.
I personally have had only one problem with GFWLive so far. The horror stories on the internet sound much worse than my little problem though. My problem was that in Batman:AA I could never connect to Live. Every other GFWLive game I played never had this problem or any other. I like getting Xbox Live achievements on the PC, I like chatting with my friends who are playing on the Xbox (it’s much easier to type long chat messages on the PC). Sometimes they convinced me to stop playing something on the PC and join them in some game they were playing on the Xbox, so I like that cross platform communication a lot.
Assuming you’re running the PC at 1080P, you’re still at a significantly higher resolution than your 360 which is running at 720P.
I’m looking for how to get back to the video settings menu on Batman:AA. I initially input my settings and now I don’t see a way to get back to that screen, any tips?
I found it. It’s called ‘launcher’ when I right click the Batman icon. I should get an achievement for finding it.

Avernum 4, 5, 6 on steam, each on sale for $3.99 All three for $9.59.
Again, free is good, right?
Join the official Rockstar Community group on Steam and you’ll get a free copy of Midnight Club 2 if you didn’t already have it.
Well, I fired up Steam and joined. I suppose I’ll see eventually if the game appears.
So I’m unclear–I gather that the Avernum series was a re-imagining of one of Spiderweb’s first games called Exile: Escape from the pit. Does that apply to these three games, or are they just sequels of the first one? And this one that got released in April, is it a second re-imagining, as its subtitle, Escape from the Pit, would imply?
Exile 1, 2, 3 - originals
Avernum 1, 2, 3 - remakes of Exile 1, 2, 3 (first trilogy)
Avernum 4, 5, 6 - new games (second trilogy)
Avernum: Escape from the Pit - remake of Exile 1/ Averum 1
