KaoFloppy: The PSP release of Persona 2: Eternal Punishment never got released in the US for whatever reason, so that would be the PSone classics release, which, no, isn’t discounted.

Interesting. You get the base game ($39.99 on Steam) and the Coronation Scot and Aerotrain DLC ($9.99 each on Steam). Plus all the other stuff in the bundle. That seems like a pretty good deal.

That is a a good deal. Currently same price for base game without the add-ons from the developer’s site.

The Auran produced dlc is good (I’ve bought all of it over the years), but you might / might not want some of it depending on what regions of the world you find interesting.

I’d definitely suggest the add on content from the guys at JointedRail if you like North American railroading. Lots of great stuff!

Humble bundle weekly:

Cliffski games!

Gratuitous Tank Battles is a tower defense game, right?

You can either defend or attack. If attacking, you contruct your units GSB-style and deploy them in whatever order you deem fit against the AI defender. If defending, you contruct your fortifications and infantry squads GSB-style and deploy them like any other tower defense game to stop an AI attacker.

I was a bit disappointed in it compared to GSB, but at this price it’d definitely be worth it to take for a spin.

I didn’t like it. To me there wasn’t enough feedback as to why certain battles were won or lost. I felt obliged to customize units but didn’t find it engaging. But I didn’t like Gratuitous Space Battles either, so maybe I wasn’t the target audience even though I do like a good tower defense game.

Sounds far too tower defense-y for me. I absolutely hate tower defense games. Thanks for the info, though.

I didn’t like Gratuitous Tank Battles, and I do like a well-done Tower Defense game. Not the general run of them, but the better stuff like Defense Grid or Orcs Must Die. The thing I disliked most about GTB was that the game gives you an income and a low cap on your bank balance. I don’t want time pressure on my tower selection in a tower defense game. Also significant is that it totally lacks a staple of TD games: a set of scenarios which gradually introduce the rules. So you’re thrown into the deep end with scenario 1 with no idea what works and what doesn’t.

Speaking of Tower Defense, the DotD on Steam is the Puppy Games Ultra Bundle, which includes the awesome and wonderful Revenge of the Titans (and the soundtrack for said game)–you can buy all the items separately if you want, too.

RUSE is $2.50 at gamersgate.

Is it worth it just for singleplayer?

So tempted on Persona, but I just know I’ll never get around to playing, much less finishing, them – waaaay too large a backlog already. =/

Yes, ignore the awful cutscenes.

Yes just ignore the awful story.

Buyer beware apparently.

Steam installs an older version of the game that must be updated for hours through Auran’s service.

By the way, that service comes with an optional First Class Ticket subscription. Don’t pay the fee? Then you’re restricted to a daily cap and a lower dl rate.

I hadn’t bought the Steam variant so wasn’t aware of code differences, sorry!

The download station and content system probably need some explaining for folks who are new to the game. The game engine vendor (Auran / n3v games) maintains the game code, the download station / database, and a portion of content that comes with the game. Much of the content (scenery, train cars, locomotives) in the game, and nearly everything on the download station as optional download, is created by 3rd party enthusiasts and a few companies. The download station is being updated constantly by creators with new items, better versions of their older content, etc. the game engine itself is updated less frequently (a major version every few years with patch revs In between).

IMO you want to install the latest (around 2 gb) patch for the game, but think you can get that from the web servers (or steam i guess depending on your version) without the download station / first class ticket business. I would Install that for sure (bug fixes for the game engine), but you don’t necessarily have to install all the zillions of little updates to content that come from the download station in-game.

You can play the game as-is, as you would with most other games, or you can make it into a virtual model railroad hobby, downloading new stuff , creating, uploading, and sharing other stuff as you go depending on your interests. If you get that deep, paying for the higher speed servers is a good idea.

Hope that helps without taking us too far off topic,
Diego

Deal of the week at Amazon is Saint’s Row stuff, including the “Full Package” edition of Saint’s Row 3 for $12.49. Unlocks on Steam and includes a $5 credit towards a Saint’s Row 4 pre-order. Saint’s Row 2 is only $3.75. All the SR3 DLC is on sale, too, so click around if there’s a specific piece you want.

I really enjoyed Saints Row 3, but I thought all the DLC was fairly forgettable. IMO you’re better off buying the cheaper base game.

GOG’s weekend deal is up; half-price on Russian-made strategy game series like UFO, Eador, Etherlords, and King’s Bounty. Eador:MotBW for $10 is $4 bucks lower than it was in the Steam summer sale, IIRC.

OMG Silent Storm is $5! I was just thinking about this game the other day. I remember it was awesome, just wondering if it still looks decent after all this time. Did anyone try it lately? Do the AI turns still take forever or was it patched? Will I have time to play it? :)
