Dark Souls is $7.50 on Gamersgate. Steamworks.

It’s an incredible game, but you’ll want a controller and a mod called DSFix.

Can’t really compare it with playing with a controller since I lack one, but with DSMFix I’ve found it entirely playable by good ole’ Keyboard + Mouse.

I couldn’t imagine playing DS without the use of a controller. What do you throw in anger?

Small puppies.

A previous coworker of mine would throw his mice when he got really upset. He had a box of broken mice sitting in his office.

Since you mentioned puppies, I first envisioned someone throwing actual small furry mice.

Nothing, since I don’t get angry at Dark Souls.

What’s my secret? As soon as I leave a bonfire, I realize I have already died. :D

A quick question about the current Humble Weekly Bundle, which includes Men of War Assault Squad GOTY if you beat the average. If you already own the base version, do you at least get upgraded to the GOTY version, or are you out of luck?

EDIT: To answer my own question, I took the plunge and it did give me the DLC from the GotY version.

I’m sure I will never play any of these but a reduction from $135 to $5 is too good a deal to pass up.

Too bad this activates on steam. Since i have the GOG version, those are not compatible… :(

New deals of the week going live on Amazon. Mortal Kombat Komplete Edition is $13.49. That’s the modern reboot and it unlocks on Steam. They’ve also got a bundle with that, plus Arkham City, LOTR: War in the North and the Mortal Kombat Arcade Collection for $21.99. Chivalry: Medieval Warfare is also on sale for $8.49. Also activates on Steam. The site is currently updating so prices should be live in the next 30 minutes or so.

MK is outstanding and totally worth that price.

That’s an interesting Amazon bundle. I haven’t played any of the games (besides the original MK), how are they?

(Edit: Ignore that question! I couldn’t resist the impulse buy.)

I think that’s the same price as MK was alone a week or two during all the big sales.

The newest MK is really good and it has lots of single player content for a fighting game. Though, I do think Nether Realm outdid themselves with their latest game, Injustice.

How is the new MK for button mashers? I’ve always been a fan of the Soul Calibur series because they’re relatively button mash friendly and I absolute hate memorizing wacky combos. Soul Calibur combos are simple enough I eventually intuitively pick them up, and the same button combinations are generally used between characters so instead of learning new combos entirely you’re just learning what Y Y Y does for this character instead of that character. Bought Street Fighter during a Steam sale and it didn’t go too well for me. Speaking of which, is the new MK 360 controller friendly? As in, has it got three flavors each of punch and kick which makes it more of a pain in the ass, or is it two flavors of punch and kick?

Kinda interested but don’t really want to plonk down $13 only to play it half an hour and then bail.

MK was a gateway fighting game for a lot of my friends. I find that most of them who liked MK also went on to enjoy Soul Calibur and Injustice, while many of them never warmed up to Street Fighter 4 (which fwiw is MY all-time favorite fighting game). The combo system is more mashy and generally less timing/precision based compared to Street Fighter. And yeah, characters generally have similarly executed movesets across the board, so it’s fairly easy to pick up a new character. MK is friendly for gamepads as it only really uses 4 buttons for attacks, with blocking and throwing being done via the shoulder buttons. Personally I don’t think the 360 pad is friendly for ANY fighting game because the d-pad is so bad.

For me, the new MK is just too violent. Yeah, it’s always been ultra-violent, but it turns out my limit is high-definition xrays of people’s bones breaking and organs exploding.

Awesome, sounds promising then. Might grab it and hope for the best. And agreed on the 360 controller’s d-pad being garbage. I really like the controller itself (And how it has become the standard for PC controllers so you rarely have to dick with anything to get it working) but the d-pad is pretty awful. I think they supposedly released a newer version for the console that had a better d-pad but I’m not sure if they’ve made a wired version of that so I could use it for PC.

Prison Architect is 19.99 (33% off) just for today over at Humble Bundle Weekly. Do I get it now or just wait for it to hit release stage, and then wait for the inevitable 50% off Steam sale next year?

Depends on how many games you have that you haven’t played yet, and if you think you’d REALLY play Prison Architect between now and the inevitable 50% off Steam sale. I was ready to buy PA today but then I realized I probably wouldn’t really be able to put time into it before it went on sale.

You do have a point. Right now I’m actually mired in 3DS gaming. Aside from a quick peek at Shadowrun, I haven’t fired up a PC game in a couple of weeks now. So yeah, I’ll wait for it to hit the bargain bin before I buy it.
