Oh. I thought it was weird they would give away such a recent game. I didn’t buy 2013 either, but I don’t remember why.

Steam deal of the day is Skull of the Shogun for $7.49 at 50% off. This is a turn-based strategy game that’s like Advanced Wars, but is based on free-form movement (no grid, no hex), and a strict limit of 5 unit actions per turn on each side. There’s a campaign that is easy if you don’t go after all the Gold Skull challenges, and there’s a multi-player that I know nothing about.

This game seems not to have sold well, as far as I can gather by the number of their steam cards for sale in the marketplace. But it’s a worthy game to play.

It originally was restricted to Microsoft mobile devices and then Windows 8, which ensured a slow and agonizing demise. Now that it’s finally available to the masses (and on sale) I’m hoping it’ll do a bit better because everything I hear about it suggests it’s great. (I only just picked it up myself.)

I tried out the demo last night (via the Win 8 store) - very fun!

Free copy of Zeno Clash & a Steam coupon for the 2nd one:

The site is borked right now, so try later instead of immediately. Offer expires in 6 months.

Civ V: Brave New World is on sale at Newegg for $11.99:

Other 2K games are on sale as well. Bioshock Infinite is $15.99.
http://promotions.newegg.com/games/13-3979/index.html

Steam’s Midweek Madness is Metro Last Light for $20. I can’t recall it being more than maybe $10 off before so that seems like a pretty precipitous drop to me. Also Garry’s Mod for $2.50, but -that- has been that price more than once previously.

Um, if I am reading that right it only gets you a coupon for 33% off Xeno clash 2 and if you use it you THEN get ZC1 free. I registered it on steam and didnt get a free game…

You get both, it’s just a little glitchy. You might have to restart Steam for ZC to appear in your game library.

OK that’s what they said on Slickdeals too, will check it later when done with Saints 4

XBL summer sale is ending and I found Skyrim for 133.33 SEK (aprox 20 USD).
Not sure if this is a local deal for Sweden

Purchase sweet spot achieved. It’ll probably be like $10 for the Christmas Sale, but whatever.

So the Steam Daily Deal is LotR: War in the North for 5 bucks. I remember the reviews being a bit on the tepid side when it came out, but anything with the LotR license that’s not actively horrible, and has the Howard Shore soundtrack (I trust this is the case since it discusses having access to the film LotR assets in the description) has got to be worth a fiver. Also, I’ve been missing The Return of the King film tie-in beat-em-up game from around 10 years ago, which I doubt would hold up on modern machines.

War in the North is a wretched, wretched, ultra-boring game. Avoid.

Wow, two “wretcheds” worth. OK, I guess I’ll try to get the old game running instead.

I wouldn’t say it’s THAT bad, but when there are so many awesome fantasy-flavored RPG/action games, why even bother with mediocrity?

Just a reminder the Amazon Late Summer sale is still going, but it ends Sunday. Lots of games have been called out below, but they’ve also made a page where you can just see all the deals that unlock in Steam. Would have linked that eirlier, but the page was broken back when the sale began.

On the European PSN store, there’s a sale on Japanese games to celebrate the Tokyo Games Show:

I bought that a few days before I learned that Newegg is offering Sid Meier’s Civilization V: Brave New World for $11.99 U.S. Prior to that I wasn’t even aware that Newegg was selling Online Game Codes.

I know we just got a nice sale on Japanese stuff on the US PSN a couple of weeks ago (with some fun stuff that isn’t included in the European sale, like New Little King’s Story and Atelier Totori Plus), but man, I wish we could have that sale over here! There are some marvelous deals in there on several games that haven’t been discounted on the US PSN in ages/at all.
