This is a really good game, and I normally hate Tower/Castle defense games.
I don’t know if this deal is still on but Proteus is definitely worth experiencing. I don’t want to say too much but I had an amazing time with it.

IndieGameStand now has a full store along with their daily thing. They have a few games on sale to kick things off; however one unfortunate thing is the ones in the regular store don’t have all the same bonuses as the ones purchased in the limited-time pay-what-you-want sales. The Real Texas doesn’t include the Paradise Perfect Boat Rescue game, for example.

Street Fighter x Tekken’s online component is GFWL so it will be inactive in a few months. Not much of a deal,.
New deal of the week at Amazon includes Lego Lord of the Rings for $8.99, Scribblenauts Unlimited for $5.99 or both together for $12.49.

Not to rain on anyone’s parade, and those are great games, but remember that they’re Games for Windows Live games that rely on that DRM. Since GFWL is going away for good next summer, I wonder what the word is on whether the requirement is going to be patched out or what. There are a lot of games (including single-player ones) whose future status is up in the air re: the GFWL shutdown.

Well, the Arkham games seem to have the hooks for Steamworks in the code. Steam achievements, etc are there just sitting. The GFWL stuff seems to take precedence for now. I think they’re more ready than other games to make the switch.
My question is what happens to people that purchased DLC through GFWL for games like Bioshock? I think they’re going to get screwed.
Yes, and? Remember that most people here, on these forums, recognize and even respect(sic) EULAs and ToSs. It says in there they can do it. You “agreed” to it.
Hey guys. You wanted easy online distribution, some years ago, right? Remember? You hated (with inexplicable passion) discs and disc based DRM.
This is just an outcome of what happens when you have no control over a product you purchase. C’mon now, most you guys are happy with software as a service. This is it. Service terminated. Enjoy!
And an FYI: Your beloved Valve now steals games from customers. (1) (2) Until recently, this has never happened before - ever! Sure, over time, they stopped selling over 250 games, but people who have them still do; except now, for the two linked to.

Thanks for the reminder. That means I need to replay Arkham City within the next year if I want to double dip on it’s achievements. (Steam achievements are meaningless to me, so they’re only satisfying if I can do it before the GFWL achievements go away).

Well, the first one, anyway. The second one was just a glitch that happened when the publisher got changed on a game, and was fixed.

Amazon has the PC Download for $50 with a $10 credit. Should be the same price as GMG if you have trouble purchasing from them or anything.
Oh really? If so, I stand corrected. Though like Regan said; trust, but verify. I’ll recheck things just to be sure I am spreading the truthful good word. One is still precedent. A disturbing one. Also, in my opinion, an illegal one.
That would be a worry if true, but I’m confused. If you read that thread, Order of War is still available to buy and play as a single player game. They’re talking about Order of War: Challenge, which was a multiplayer component. Square Enix decided to switch off the servers because nobody was playing it, but it doesn’t affect the separate Order of War game. The OP in that thread mentioned that the single player authentication was also turned off, but not clear if they’re talking about Challenge or the base game which is still available to buy on the Steam store (go look). So it looks like Square made a multiplayer add-on / DLC for their game, nobody was playing it, they turned off the servers and removed it from the Steam store, people complained. It’s not quite as dramatic as first implied though.

The Whispered World is currently in my Steam library, so I’m willing to say it hasn’t been yanked. The Order of War Challenge thread seemed like they were suggesting it had singleplayer content that was now also gone, but possibly they were confusing it with Order of War proper. Either way, removing games from our libraries is clearly technically possible. For that matter, they could simply ban your account entirely or shut off their servers entirely and there’s nothing in particular to be done about it. So yeah, that’s not cool and like a lot of the other aspects of digital media consumption and distribution really, really needs to be updated in a way that respects both the rights and needs of the consumer and the rights and needs of the content creators instead of just handing the big media companies almost completely unchallenged control. But that doesn’t mean there’s something inherently wrong with digital distribution, which remains a prospect with a great many benefits, or that sticking with physical media would prevent the media companies from picking away at consumer rights.
Oh, please! It’s outrageous. Nothing less. And you are wrong. It was a paid for module.
So, yes, the thing that was removed from accounts (a first, two previous and corrected “mistakes” notwithstanding) is the MP component. It was given away free to owners of the main game. They can’t really complain, much. Here’s the nasty part. That very same MP module was also sold for $9.99 to those who did not have the core game and only wanted the multiplayer. So it was a proper commercial game. It cost money. Again, owners of the SP game got it free. They too should bitch, but meh, okay - “easy come easy go”. But those who paid for it? Are you dense? That’s outright theft. The only legally valid reason for Valve to remove a game from a user’s library would be for fraud. Dead games (until now that is) are not removed. There are several completely dead games. Games that install but upon launch do absolutely nothing. Black screen or black screen that gives “server not found error”. Crasher and Fray do that. I have them. There are more such dead games out of the 250+ removed from sale games. Whilst it’s a shame that the games are dead, people who bought them still have them - as they should. Yes, they can’t do shit with them but so what? That is not the point.
Now, in an unprecedented and highly illegal move, Valve is complicit in outright theft. (Hey, Chet still around? /rolleyes)
I was going to link the actual Steam store page via that way back archive site, but when it started loading Russian pages I buzzed the fuck out of there. Anything Russian and I’m out. Anyway, you can just Google it and see that it was a $10 MP-only game. I am even providing a picture right here to save anyone the bother.
Look.
Valve is complicit in outright theft because they removed a non-functional game from Steam and from people’s libraries? You’re happy that your library is clogged with shit that doesn’t work anymore because the publishers (not Valve) turned off the servers, so you can sleep at night knowing your consumer rights are being protected? I’m glad you’re standing up for what’s important in your life.
They shouldn’t take it out of people’s libraries. They can remove it from sale, but they shouldn’t remove the ability of customers to redownload it – it doesn’t matter if it’s broken or not.

Yes, they should leave the customer the satisfaction of loading the game, seeing an error message and turning it off, feeling their consumer rights are respected and all.
Who cares. Take it to the DRM thread.
Ever hear of fan patches? Compatibility shims? Just because Steam might be peddling a broken product doesn’t mean it needs to stay that way.
