Hey guys, Europa Universalis IV is on sale on the Mac Game Store for $19.99 for a Steam key.

Totally just snagged it.

Will the same key run on PC and Mac via Steam?

Yup yup, just installed it.

Cool. I guess I’ll have to pay attention to mac sales now. Maybe that’s a bad thing, one more source of sales.

I haaate when people put the main game on sale but not the DLC. Borderlands 2 has done this way too often.

Any Australians thinking that we caught a break here, think again:

Unfortunately this product is not yet available in your region

The Borderlands 2 DLC is on sale at GamersGate. (They’re listed as for Mac, but because they all activate on Steam, you get both versions)

Steam deal of yesterday is Half Life 2 $2.49 (-75%). Everything Half Life is also 75% off.
(I get seasickness from playing HL. Can I adjust FOV on the Source Engine?)

Steam-2K deal of yesterday is Bioshock Infinite $13.59 (-66%). DLCs not for sale. BS1 + DLC and BS2 + DLC are also on sale for 75% off. Hurry, you have 2.5 hours from now to buy them!

…Your friendly Steam pusher.

You can.

Smaller FOVs tend to exaggerate camera movement, whilst larger FOVs tend to minimise its effect on the image. Thus setting a wider FOV can sometimes help to reduce motion sickness during gameplay. If you are experiencing such problems in Half-Life 2, try changing the FOV to 90 using the command “sv_cheats 1;fov 90” in the console.

Magic 2014 is $5 until tomorrow.

This is the deck building game where you have to pay extra to build proper decks right? You can’t earn cards in the game itself, you have to buy them?

No you still earn cards in-game. They added Sealed Decks, which comes with two slots for decks. If you want more slots you have to pay extra.

I was annoyed by that at first but the rest of the game is intact, just like the earlier versions. They’ve just added functionality and charged for it. Seems fair to me.

Ok so with the sealed deck game, you still earn cards to build those decks by playing, you just pay for extra slots to store more of your custom decks in? That’s not too odious. I didn’t really get into the ‘pre-made decks with minor customization’ mode from the earlier versions.

That’s it exactly.

Well, waitaminnit, except that I think sealed deck has you building decks from sealed packs that you open. That’s the functionality that they added.

They ditched some of the cooler modes from previous installments (like Planechase). They weren’t the core gameplay so I guess it’s fair to say that the game is intact, but I’d much rather have more planechase or archenemy than pay for individual sealed deck slots. And it’s not buying slots for custom decks you build, it’s a mode where you build a deck out of randomized packs distributed at the start and can (I think) earn some additional cards over the course of play, but that slot is then forever that particular distribution of cards and to play another fresh sealed deck you need another slot. Which you mostly get to pay for. It just feels really ickily monetized to me.

Oh that’s not so good then. I guess I would just like a more modern version of the Yu-Gi-Oh games that were on the DS. Earn cards and currency by playing the game, then spend that currency on booster packs which can be used to build whatever decks you like (within the rules). And lots and lots of cards.

So, I liked the Magic 2013 Planeswalker game. Is 2014 different where if you played 2013, 2014 is different enough to play too? I only play it single player.

Keep an eye on Hex.
