…if you like one of them a lot!

Groupee’s website seems to be suffering some problems at the mo. Too many people building a bundle probably.

Steam deal of the day is Guns of Icarus Online $3.74 (-75%). PvP airship combat. User metacritic score way higher than review site metacritic score.

That is a fairly unique feature of the series, yes. I think a better selling point for these games, though, is that they feature some of the most obsessive simulation I’ve ever seen in an RTS. Every bullet is individually modelled. Every soldier has their own individual inventory you can loot. You can steal their hats. The terrain is destructible. Tanks can lose individual systems. Etc. Some of them also feature campaign coop, but Men of War: Red Tide specifically does not.

The UFO games are real-time takes on the X-Com formula - not amazing by most accounts but progressively improved over the course of the series. Not sure if there’s any point to picking them up now that Firaxis put out their XCOM remake and Xenonauts is on the horizon, but the later two at least take on scenarios past the “defend Earth from alien assault” basic setup that defines those games, so maybe?

Sure. But Elven Legacy isn’t in the sale here, so you’re not deciding which one to get, just whether FW is worth $.50 and the time you would put into it, and I am saying that it is. Actually, even if you were choosing between them, I might recommend going with FW anyway. I played them out of order, and in retrospect it became clear that the army design in EL was a sort of themed variant designed as a reaction to the ones in FW, to give experienced players a different experience. FW might be a better starting point because its armies are more well-rounded and cover all the bases.

Speaking of broken sites, CVG and GMG are giving away a code for either Civ 5 or Mafia 2 if you vote in their Golden Joystick awards. Currently it’s giving errors if you try to actually sign in to submit your votes.

I got an email from Greenman Gaming with a voucher good for 27% off Assassin’s Creed 4. Not sure if it’s single use or anything goes (I already used it), so report back how it works for you.

Yes, free errors given away if you vote now! I managed to vote earlier this morning, but the GMG site still says I have not voted. The page says to give them 24 hours, so we’ll see if it actually works.

I’m surprised that GMG still runs these kinds of freebie promos after their site getting hammered and not being able to handle the load every time. I didn’t even vote properly since the site was so hosed. One vote and that was enough for me. I doubt they’ll get useful data from this. Day Z for president and GOTY!

Yes, there is. They’re decently executed games, and the classic type rather than XCOM. Note that they’re not direct sequels, they’re more or less parallel developments and play slightly differently in tactical terms and very differently on the world map.

Just an FYI, KB: Crossworlds includes (and improves upon) the Armored Princess campaign. So, if you’ve played Crossworlds, you’ve played AP – and there’s no point in going back.

Oh, I haven’t. I played the very first KB when it first came out and half of QT3 seemed to be playing it. Loved it, but I haven’t played any of the KBs since.

Besides, AP is 50 cents and Crossworlds is $20!

Well, then have at it, young man!

If you are interested in Crossworlds, there are 48 hours left on the Indie Gala King’s War bundle. For $1 you get King’s Bounty : The Legend, King’s Bounty : Armored Princess, Men of War and Men of War : Red Tide. Bump the total up to $8.99 and they add Men of War : Assault Squad GOTY and King’s Bounty : Crossworlds (both $20+ games) to the bundle. Not a bad set of games for $9. On the other hand, if you aren’t interested at all in anything Men of War related, I’d stick with AP for $0.50 on Groupees and then wait for the Steam sale on Crossworlds when it will likely be $5.

Interesting Indiegala just started:
http://www.indiegala.com/

$1:
Eyri’s Action
Reflex
Satazius

$5 (will go up later):
Crusader Kings 2
Ether Vapor Remaster
Fairy Bloom Freesia
Gorky 17
Knights of Pen & Paper
Two Worlds 2
+4 more games later

Four of the BTA games also have Steam Trading Cards.

Dammit, and here I am having bought Knights last week and not having started it yet.

Over on Groupees, the 1c Bundle has both Death to Spies games unlocked as bonuses. The casual bundle has another unlocked, Farm for your Life. That looks like a weird mix of diner dash, farmville & zombies. It’s currently down to 1 game minimum for a purchase. I picked up Luxor because I can’t resist neon glowy things, and it seems like it’d be a fun Puzzloop/Zuma-style game. The next bonus in it could be pretty interesting: Hasta La Muerte.

You’re not the only one - a couple friends did that too. I’m surprised it’s in a bundle so soon!

Steam deal of the day is StarDrive $10.19 (-66%). A space 4X game that doesn’t have the words Galactic or Master in its name?

Weekend deals are up, too. One of them, anyways.
$23.99 -40% Divinity: Dragon Commander. This only came out 2 months ago!

Capcom weekend promotion. 50-75% off all their games, or so they say.
1 day special: Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition $7.49 -75%. DLCs also -75%.
New releases also on sale: Remember Me is -50%. Lost Planet 3 is -40% I knew it! “all” doesn’t mean all.

Capcom weekend at Steam. Reduction across the catalog, plus special sales thur-sun. Today is Super Street Fighter IV Arcade for $7.50.

Capcom is fairly stingy with deals, so this might be a good time to pick up some games if you’ve been holding out.

Word of warning:

Almost all Capcom PC games are Games for Windows Live, which means none of them will work in February unless Capcom patches GFWL out. Which seems extremely unlikely to happen given Capcom’s support record.

Do yourself a favor and pass on StarDrive. It’s mostly a wreck with neat ideas that were never developed and is now being abandoned to code roughly the same game in a new engine. Good luck figuring out that decision. That after months of tiny little patches that went off on all sorts of tangents without fixing core gameplay problems and technical issues.
