Say that someone hadn’t played either of the Fallout games…would that someone be missing anything by skipping F3 and going right to New Vegas?

You’ll find a ton of differing opinions. You’ll be missing out on an awesome game, but story wise you’re not going to miss a beat or anything.

You would be missing a great game. But you don’t have to play F3 to play F:NV.

They are kind of distinct enough to play both and won’t feel more of the same. You can notice they are done by different companies with different perspectives of rpgs.

Since this the last day of the sale, does anyone have opinions on the Castlevania game?

It’s really long.

That’s not an opinion.

Uhh, it’s okay. The combat is really dull for too much the game (you do eventually unlock more abilities and encounter better foes that make it more exciting). There are way too many quick time button presses. The camera is often terrible. It’s hard not to recommend you play Dark Souls again instead.

I did like it more than the Darksiders games, though, and some people really like those, so maybe you’ll like this.

Ahh, Ill skip it then. I hate QTE with a passion.

Because most of the characters are monsters.

I got it last night because DmC had left me hungry for more precision-based melee combat. After playing through the first chapter on Knight (hard), my impressions are measuredly positive, but I’m not finding it to be on the same level so far. The core combat feels like a pretty good foundation, with the attacks having a nice sense of impact and the movement feeling responsive, though it definitely needs to open up some more attacks, mechanics, and enemies to reach its potential. It also sounds great, between high quality voice acting and the orchestral score.

However, rather than letting the combat engine carry the game, it goes too far trying to inject variety with one-off setpiece sequences and QTEs that are inevitably less interesting and fleshed out than the main mechanics. Just in the first chapter, there are: two mini-bosses killed with semi-interactive sequences rather than normal attacks, a mounted sequence with different (simpler) combat mechanics than the normal ones, glacially slow slogs through swamp mud, a short platforming sequence, a non-combat mission with nothing but simple exploration and minor puzzles, and a boss that abandons the combat system for a wannabe Shadow of the Colossus. None of these are bad, but it does feel like the balance between the core gameplay and the one-off palate cleansers is inverted.

And in the “ugly” category, there doesn’t seem to be any way to turn off the constant reminder text of “Press RT to [context-sensitive action] the [interactive object that already sparkled and played an audio cue to alert the player to interact with it]”. There’s also no scoring system, though “trials” to complete in-mission tasks may help with that lack.

Altogether, though, I did enjoy what I played and want to continue, even if I’ve been a bit spoiled by DmC’s focus and total lack of QTEs.

I’m replying with a quote from the xbox thread from a while back.

What I like most about the combat in this game: You’re not invincible when you dodge in Castlevania which was a gripe I had when I played Bayonetta. Therefore you will take some serious beatdowns until you learn the combat system. The combat and the visuals in this game are great. If I remember correctly most of the QTEs where simple timing based ones. They didn’t negatively impact my enjoyment. Also this game has a really strong ending as well.(which I actually still remember after all this time)

I loved Castlevania. The combat system isn’t the deepest but it was really solid for the most part on hard. It had a very satisfying difficulty on hard and demanded you got good at the system. It is very long, but I was never bored and the gameplay was varied enough between exploration, combat, puzzles, and big bosses. Loved the soundtrack and the graphics, though there were a few times where the camera zoomed out quite a bit to show off the scenery which made combat annoying. One thing I totally missed was how to properly utilize the dark magic. I would blow it on all on a few attacks when I should have been using for guard breaks. Really looking forward to the sequel.

I also loved Castlevania. I played it on the PS3, and I absolutely hated the demo because it felt so restrictive and on-rails. The creature, character, and environment design eventually sold me on giving it another try and I’m glad I pushed through. If you go in expecting a Castlevania game you might be a tiny bit disappointed, but it’s got a very distinct flavor to the world. The closest thing I can compare it to is a Guillermo del Torro movie like Pan’s Labrynth or Hellboy. The game itself is pretty solid as well, and like the latest Tomb Raider it was a complete surprise how much I loved it.

Best Buy is having a 2-day sale right now. Some Skylanders stuff that looks like a good deal but that I admittedly know nothing about, and a lot of middling deals. The biggest standout to me is Paper Mario: Sticker Star for $8.

$30 off of the 3DS XL is nothing to sneeze at. Wait, did I use that right? Should it be sneezed at?

A lot of new 75 - 90% off coupons are being pumped out by Steam trading card badges, even for early access & licensed games.

Check their forum (it’s below the download demo/add to wishlist boxes) and click on trading if you’re interested in buying a game on there. Most of the time people offer these for free or any card. You don’t even have to add them to your friends list to make a trade anymore. These don’t work on multi-packs though.

The Best Buy sale has Rocksmith Best Buy edition (360, PS3) for $7.99. It appears to have the game and cable. Note that this is the original, not the 2014 version, but it’s a nice price even for just the cable.
