I can install Steam games without Steam?
Hmph. It’s not really an irrational position to take. This is a situation where the first-mover has a distinct advantage. I’d prefer to not have many games spread over many different installers. I have 150-ish games bought on Steam so I’m always going to look there for games first, but I’ll buy on Amazon or Origin for a significant price break.

Better, you can purchase and install DRM free games on Steam. Best of both worlds, never have to worry about a 3rd party service again.

Steam is convenient and offers great deals. I don’t stress about Steam going out of business or whatever. If that happens I can trivially pirate the games I purchased and not feel guilty about it. That would be inconvenient, but not overwhelmingly so.
Worth noting that while the PSN version is cross-buy (and the game plays like a dream on Vita) and is going to be on sale starting tomorrow, the discounted Steam version would be a better deal even if it didn’t include the DLC, which it does.
Either way, definitely buy it! It’s easily one of the best Metroid games not developed by Nintendo.
I’ve not downloaded it yet, but it’s still in my library. I already have the Blackwell Bundle from GoG so I don’t need to have it on Steam, though.
This is not remotely the same thing as owning the game on Steam. Edit: If you’re talking about the Add a Non-Steam Game to my Library option, anyway. It occurs to me you might not be.
The dev revoked the keys that were issued after Halloween ended. Two people I know who got their keys during Halloween still have the game as well.
I was a little surprised that the vendor site (I don’t think this is the Blackwell dev’s idea) had a key generator page without any real verification, and that they “disabled” the giveaway by just removing the link for that page. I remember this same vendor site tried to disable some purchase page back in the past via a client-side redirect, which people easily worked around. If I were an indie dev, I would not use them to sell my games. :)

I’m one of them and I’m not ashamed about it simply because it’s my money and I decide how and where I want to spend it.
But I do agree that for free, it’s up to the giver to choose how they want to give and I don’t bitch about it coz, well, it’s their rights.
Gamersgate have Heroes VI Gold at 75% off (£5.00 UK).

I don’t know, has anyone mentioned the rumored dates for Steam Halloween and Christmas sales yet?
From this Reddit thread: Nov 27 - Dec 3 and Dec 19 - Jan 2.
So what’s in this rumored Warner Bros humble bundle? The facebook image has already been yanked, or is not available to dinosaurs like me who don’t facebook.
Scribblenauts Unlimited + 5 WB Games from Steam was all we know so far. The tagline is “Be a hero!” so I’d bet some Batman games.
GOG is running a charity bundle. 10 games for $1.67 each, 3 games minimum.

They’ve also changed their system for redeeming Steam games a little:

TLDR: Can give away extra games now.
Sweet, I’ve been wanting to pick up Lord of the Rings: War in the North, this is perfect. Thanks!
Available now, that was correct.
Average is currently $3.55… I don’t know why people are being such cheapskates with this one. :/
The Humble Bundle is up. I already have AC, but getting FEAR and AA on steam is worth a few bucks, and I’ve always been curious about that LOTR game.
It’s up to $4.11 on my screen. It usually seems to take a little while to ramp up, in my experience.
