What are you planning on playing on it? I have a DS and a PSP, but I haven’t touched either for years. All my portable gaming has been iOS. I did a brief look at 3DS games at Game Rankings because, well, gadgets, and nothing stood out for me.

I wish they’d make a new Advance Wars.
That was the first thing I checked, was there a new 3DS-only Advance Wars? Apparently the answer is “no.”
I wouldn’t mind a new Dragon Warrior Monsters game, either. Yeah, the protagonist of Joker is a nimrod, but I like the basic mechanics a lot.
The recent Fire Emblem game may not be Advance Wars, but it’s still a pretty damn good time.

I’m not clear on why they would start it on a Thursday instead of a Friday, although on the other hand that’s when they start all the Weekend Deals.
In the past they’ve had Thursday starts.
At any rate, there hasn’t been a weekly deal this week I don’t think and there’s buzz about leaked emails and whatnot saying that tomorrow is the day.
After how poorly Days of Ruin sold, I’m not getting my hopes up for a new Advance Wars game any time soon.
Blame Square Enix for this; they seem to have no intent of bringing Dragon Quest games to the west ever again. Remember that Dragon Quest IX wasn’t even going to be released here despite enormous sales in Japan until Nintendo stepped in and published it themselves; the same thing is happening with Bravely Default now.
Counting the Dragon Quest Monsters 2 remake being released in February, there have been four Dragon Quest games on 3DS alone, none of which have seen western release at all.

I was the reverse – I don’t think much of the 3DS as a gadget, but wound up getting one solely on account of the great exclusive game library.
Not sure what your genre preferences are, but Fire Emblem Awakening, Etrian Odyssey IV, Mario 3D Land, Shin Megami Tensei IV, and Zelda: A Link Between Worlds are all among the best of their respective series.
Also worth consideration are Devil Survivor Overclocked, Monster Hunter 3, Luigi’s Mansion, New Super Mario Bros. 2, Rune Factory IV, Etrian Odyssey Untold, Zero Escape, Kid Icarus Uprising, Crimson Shroud, Liberation Maiden, the Picross e series, the Mighty ____ series, and probably a bunch more I’m forgetting.
That said, the types of games it’s strong in are largely the same as those where the DS was, so if you didn’t get much use out of that, it might not change your mind.
What about Cave Story? I really liked the freeware version when I played it years ago.

Yeah, Cave Story is great. I didn’t mention it because it’s on so many other platforms, but if you haven’t played it yet, it’s a great choice. Same goes for VVVVVV.
You’d think I’d like the Fire Emblem games, but the first one did nothing for me, despite the perceived overlap with Advance Wars. Similarly, while I’m generally into CRPGs, I found both Etrian Odyssey I and Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey extremely grindy and unfun. The Zelda and Mario games aren’t my genres at all; I’ve tried well-reviewed examples of both (Wind Waker, Paper Mario) and didn’t like them.
The DS games I recall enjoying are the Advance Wars games, DQM: Joker, Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime, Infinite Space, and Might and Magic: Clash of Heroes.
Yeah, and wouldn’t you know it, three of the four Dragon Quest games on 3DS are remakes of the first two Dragon Quest Monsters games and a sequel to Rocket Slime. It’s the kind of thing that really makes you want to punch whoever’s in charge of localization decisions at Square Enix.
Here’s the link to the main sale page. As in the past each game bought will get you a $5 promotional credit towards one of their “Editor’s Choice” games for 2013 in January. Sometimes that can mean very cheap, or even free, titles in January when combined with other sales/price matches. Anyway, here’s a bunch of deals that stuck out to me, but this list is by no means comprehensive.

My wallet won’t survive the day , once the Steam sales go live.
Slickdeals also has a list up for the Amazon game sales. Looks like on December 24th Anno 2070 Complete will be $12.50.
STEAM BETTER MATCH THAT PRICE!
If I’m being truthful, as exciting as the Steam sales are, I’ve gotten better bargains through GMG and Amazon the past few events.
LOL! With the $5 credit on the Editor’s Choice for 2013 they’re actually PAYING YOU $3 to take a Steam key off their hands. I’m not sure even that is enough incentive for me to purchase it though.
I’m on the fence about Aliens Colonial Marines as well, even though it’s only $2. That’s pretty bad.
