The review said the game wants you to burn stuff. The enjoyment comes entirely from how much you enjoy watching things burn, and I guess setting up cascades so burning item 1 sets item 2 on fire.

There are “recipes” for burning. Try to satisfy them by burning things in the proper combination. That will advance the story.

Little Inferno is extremely underwhelming IMO. Lower your expectations a whole bunch and you might enjoy it for what it is, but I had very little fun playing it.

I had a blast with Little Inferno. It is pretty much nothing but burning things but fortunately I find that highly entertaining.

No one should imagine there’s a lot of depth to the gameplay in Little Inferno. I think what makes it engaging are the little story tidbits and the really pretty impressive technology (I wasn’t expecting this at all) that makes things burn, fall apart, explode, and decay due to leprosy (seriously), etc. At the same time, what makes it worthwhile is the social critique, which really doesn’t require all that time burning stuff to be effective. But in my opinion when you wrap all these things together you get a unique and often delightful little game.

I’m 49 hours into the Blackguards beta (currently the first 3 of 5 chapters). Haven’t had so much fun playing an RPG in years, despite two broken quests, a few dozen minor bugs and a balancing (still WIP) which tends to go towards both extremes in chapters 2 and 3. The combat is fun and there’s almost zero repetition. Just about every map is fresh.
The character development system is The Dark Eye v4. So if you’ve played Drakensang or one of the old Realms of Arkania games you can start right away. The visual feedback which attributes, etc influence what is good, though. So new players shouldn’t have too many problems either.

Folks here seem to like Blackguards, but boy was the RPS initial impressions story discouraging about it. They hated everything from the piss-poor production values in the voice work (described as one actor trying badly to do numerous voices) to a combat system called “stodgy”.

I remember wondering which game they’ve played when I read their article. ;) But the part about the combat system is a point I can’t follow at all. Combat works fine, and it’s actually both the core part and the highlight of the game.

I was tempted by Blackguards but there’s really very little reason to buy games while they’re in early access unless you a) want to actively playtest it or b) it’s the sort of sandboxy toy-esque experience where it’s already worth fiddling with and you’ll get to learn new features as they come in rather than working on chunks of a campaign that isn’t done yet.

I had a similar reason for not buying Blackguards. In addition the forums made it sound like there were some issues with the combat system.

Someone posted a gif in the winter sale thread that almost destroyed my phone. After restarting my galaxy nexus and going in there again, I had to take my phone battery out to reset. Stop posting phone killing gifs you guys!

So Polygon tells me one of the deals today on steam is Borderlands 2 GOTY for $15. Damn it. I just bought that on Amazon two weeks ago when it was the deal of the week for $30.
