Thanks, futurecorkeh! I’m curious about Risk of Rain. Anyone play it yet? I did watch one favorable Let’s Play.

Since last light is a flash sale right now not sure how much I believe those, but thanks if true!

I ran FO3 GOTY edition with lots of mod on 64bit Windows 7 with a quad core. It ran flawlessly. Perhaps all the mods I ran made it run well. There was a large address patch I ran as well as FOSE and something that made it run in a borderless window. I can’t speak for vanilla FO3 on windows 7.

Actually I remember reading something about the large address aware patch being needed on 64 bit machines because FO3 would keep asking for more memory and windows would give it more. If it used the max for a 32 bit process, windows would still give it more ram (using some voodoo magic). However FO3 would get confused by this and crash. I suspect that is what is causing FO3 to crash for a lot of people.

Well, the source for that is Steam itself, they accidentally spoiled the last two days of their sale. They may decide to change it up, but corkeh didn’t just make that stuff up.

I had something similar with Doom 3 and Dead Space 2: I could not handle being scared out of my pants every few minutes. I could not find either game enjoyable.

I found the gameplay to get stale and highly repetitive after about 5-8 hours, and the levels are nowhere near as dynamic or cool as they sound initially. It’s a game that previews (or LPs) extremely well, but playing for any appreciable length of time shows entirely too many warts for me to be bothered playing any more.

That said, I have yet to determine if I’m in the minority or not. If you think it sounds interesting, go for it and find out for yourself. It’s not an actively bad game, but I’d rather play just about any other game I have than it. Regardless of what I think about it now, though, the game did provide several hours of entertainment first and I know there are people out there who are getting more mileage out of it than me.

It’s no Dredmor, but it’s not bad (Risk Of Rain)

Thanks guys for the Risk of Rain comments.

Otagan, I found your earlier post about the limited number of levels, and Rock Paper Shotgun’s review and other random user web posts also pointed this out as well. However, many people still appear to enjoy the game, although replay value doesn’t sound so good except for those who want to unlock all the classes/items/etc.

I’ll still probably snag this if I can get it for cheap.

GOG re-activated all the bundles for another day. All Wing Commanders incl. the Privateers for 12$ for example.

Just noticed that a rogue-like beat-em-up called Legend of Dungeon is deeply discounted at the Humble Store. Anyone tried it? Nice looking pixel graphics, and seems unique because you control multiple characters.

It’s worth checking in on the Humble Store periodically. I usually sort by discount to see what the best bargains are. Seems like during the holidays their sale rotation is faster than usual. And for the most part they are roughly matching Steam daily discount prices.

EDIT: Ah, actually it’s 4-player co-op with multiple controllers on one machine.

I got it during the steam sale and found it to be really boring and simple. It might be better with more players. It’s like Gauntlet with worse gameplay

GMG has Call of Juarez: Gunslinger for 4€. Is it worth the money or as bad as its predecessor?

You should try the demo like I did. Definitely a good game. There’s something they’ve done with the preciseness of the controls that the base gameplay just feels good. And that was on the 360. The only reason I didn’t get it is because I didn’t have time. And sadly, that’s still the case. Plus I’m always confused on what platform to buy stuff on nowadays. Will it overheat my PC? I have no idea? So then should I get it on the 360, so it’s guaranteed to work? Well, now that I have a PS4 and XB1, will I really be playing the 360 much? And on and on it goes. The good part of that platform paralysis is that I save a lot of money. The bad part is that I just spent all that money I saved on two new consoles.

I bought it earlier this sale and played for about an hour so far. I love the pixel art style with really nifty lighting effects, and your equipped armor and weapons actually show up on your character. But the gameplay is pretty flat as gamadict mentioned. You kill everything with single-button mashing. Although the devs added a lot of random items, mobs and room features (like lava pits), the levels are pretty bare with not much going on especially with the side view perspective. Online multiplayer would have added a ton of value to the game, but from what I’ve read there are no plans for this, although they seem to be actively updating the game with other stuff.

I was ok with spending $1.50 since I really like its visual presentation and will probably get a couple of hours of casual play out of it.

There’s an appreciation thread for this floating on the top page: http://www.quartertothree.com/game-talk/showthread.php?74245-Dungeon-of-the-Endless

Different game, Dungeon of the Endless != Legend of Dungeon.

That game actually looks much better. Buy that one instead, haha.

Oops, haha! Sorry about that.

Same here, love Skyrim which I just started playing the Legendary Edition, but Fallout 3 just depresses me.
