Nice. That made me laugh out loud. I’m definitely getting that.
It’s multiplayer only, and extremely competitive. If you have any interest, it’s great and mostly improved for the better since release.
The CS learning curve can be a bit steep if you’ve somehow managed to never play any of the previous versions.
CS:GO has a free weekend if you’d like to try it out for yourself.
It also has single player with bots, but those aren’t as fun as they could be on many maps. I’ve seen them be exceptionally stupid with the default settings.
Blades of Time, with DLC, was added to the Groupees Be Mine 8 bundle.
Crap! Missed the amazing amazon sega bundle deal yet again :(

ME3 at $6 caught my attention. But I gave up on ME2 as I hated the repetitive cookie cutter level. Is ME3 different? (I love ME1)
Thanks!
GMG matched this deal. Even better, though, is you can use their voucher code GMG20-LLASD-D8WBQ for an additional 20% off, bringing the total cost down to $8, making it the lowest price at which it’s been offered. I might have to jump on this deal at that price!

Anyone know if the Dark Souls deal on Amazon is a limited time part of the sale, or is it until the end of the sale? Also GreenmanGaming has a sale on Borderlands 2 and their latest coupon code works for the dlc: GMG20-LLASD-D8WBQ , which takes down the psycho DLC to $8.
According to this post on CAG, it’s good until the end of the sale (May 31).
If you loved ME1 but hated ME2, you probably won’t get much more out of ME3. ME3 is just a continuation of the stuff they started with ME2 - basically a corridor shooter with occasional talking. If you’re looking for something more like ME1, look elsewhere.
And if you find something more like ME1 looking elsewhere, please let me know where you find it. I’m dying for another game like that.
I will say the level variety is better in ME3, though. ME2 fell into a trap of tossing down a bunch of side missions on random planets with almost identical levels stamped out. Those are more or less replaced by side missions in 3 that use the multiplayer maps, but as a consequence they’re larger and more diverse.
Yeah, ME2 was definitely the worst of the trilogy, but overall it’s one of the best game series I’ve ever played. Stick through ME2 and finish the series. You have the benefit of not facing the terrible ending which has since been modified slightly to be “less terrible”.
I thought ME2 was the best and even played through it twice. I have no idea why, but something about it grabbed me.
I played ME1 for maybe 30 minutes, got bored as hell, never touched it again. My podcast’s co-host keeps telling me I should try 2, but Iiiiiiiiiiii dunno…
It can get boring at times. ME1 had the planet missions in the car. So they scrapped that in ME2 for some annoying planet scanning which was even worse. Unfortunately, to get enough research and resources to do well, you had to partake in both.
Like any RPG there was a lot of exploring and walking around looking for missions, as well as checking in with your companions to see if they had anything new to say. However, overall it was a grand space saga worth every second IMHO.
Now, if someone would like to do a Firefly or Babylon 5 equivalent, I’d throw my money at them.
Tom did a pretty good job of summarizing why ME3 plays better than ME2 did; even though I disagree with a lot of his criticisms of ME2 and still consider it my favorite of the series. That said, ME3 is a better ME2, not a callback to ME1 (at least in terms of mechanics - there are definite callbacks in the story); they didn’t bring back the tedious Mako exploration, the excessively cumbersome inventory, nor the overly complicated skill system which supposedly made ME1 a better RPG in some people’s minds.
[CAVEAT: I am not a big ME1 fan. In case it wasn’t obvious.]
I actually love Mass Effect more because it’s not attached to an existing IP. I hate when a game has to slavishly follow the “canon” of an already-existing universe. For instance, why does every goddamn Star Wars game have to have the quote, “I have a bad feeling about this?”*
*Answer: Fuck Star Wars
Yeah, Mass Effect 3 is sadly no ME1, but aside from the controversial ending and a few other niggles it’s much more sensibly and memorably designed than ME2 and definitely doesn’t do the cookie cutter level thing to nearly the same degree as that game did. They also dramatically improved the combat and the RPG game systems (to the point that a variation on those systems can sustain the multiplayer. You could not pay me to play ME2’s combat divorced of the story and dialogue.)

The Tom Chick review did it for me. Thanks unbongwah. I’m going to risk it for $6! And great discussion guys.
I can see myself returning to a space opera, yay!
