Yes, but the difference is it’s not being self-published. I can’t think of a single instance of Stardock failing to release an announced title. They may release a year early, but they release.

Arma 3 50% off, Arma 2 80% off

Steam today: Craft The World - $7.49 - (50% off). Early Access BUT official release on Nov 24; that’s 4 days from now!

Steam weekend #1: BattleBlock Theatre - $5.10 - (66% off).

Steam weekend #2: Chivalry: Medieval Warfare - $6.24 - (75% off). Free weekend!

Craft The World is quite enjoyable. It’s pretty much Dwarf Fortress in the sense that it’s an indirect-strategy. You don’t have direct control like in Terraria, but you have more control than in something like DF (and you can take direct control of a worker [iirc]).

It’s been a while since I’ve played back when there was only one world, but it was fun back then.

Is Craft world really that good / finished? There have been quite a few early access games that “release”, but are far from actually being done. How does Craft world rate?

I played craft the world a long while ago and it felt like a full featured release back then. Actually, I thought it was a full release. I found it a fun little time eater/ crafting game with some combat. Which says a lot as I usually don’t go for the Terraria types.

Maybe Ill buy it then. I really like these games, but I am tired of games that have a lot of promise in early access and then never deliver. I have a rule that I do not buy early access games for these reasons. However, if it really is about to be “done” and that means it really is “done”, then Ill take a chance as long as it is, in its current state, a full-featured game.

I concur on the state of Craft the World. I haven’t played it for five or six months, but at that time it felt like it could have been a releasable product, with the exception of some balancing and some of the dwarf pathing AI, which were both adequate but not totally polished. Im not positive that they’ve improved those things, or if they did, how. But I think at the sale price if you like this kind of game, it’s a very safe gamble to make.

I actually thought Craft the World got worse in many respects as development went on. Some things were tweaked, but … just to be different, not really improved.

Last time I played, the difficulty ramped up so ridiculously, in no time undead and beholders would spawn in such mind boggling numbers, it was impossible to mow them all down during the night (that’s what you needed to do to consider it “cleared”) - they would just keep on coming and coming until the sun went up (at that point they’d all be destroyed, but you wouldn’t get credit for it).
The only way to survive was to make your fortress “floating” so the undead couldn’t reach it.

The goblin hordes weren’t quite as large, but their spears so powerful that it’d be common for them to mow down half the dwarven population before I could even scroll to where the assault took place (their camp could basically spawn everywhere and they had ladders allowing them to reach any place).

That was when I stopped playing. Have they dialed down on this since, or is it still as bad?

The Humble Store Deal of the Day is Costume Quest 2 for 50% off (i.e. $7.50, in USD). Or if you want a bunch of other games thrown in with your full price Costume Quest 2 purchase, there’s the weekly bundle. (The relevant games, from my perspective, are Beat Hazard Ultra with another piece of DLC, and the first four chapters (all that exist currently IIRC) of The Dream Machine. Alas, I already own both.)

Steam today: Super Time Force Ultra - $9.74 - (35% off).

Hey kids, all of Soldak’s games are on sale right now, especially Drox Operative! ;)

http://www.soldak.com/Company/Buy-Games.html

So is that a Space Rangers-ish sort of game?

Sooooooort of. It’s a 3rd person space combat game with RPG elements, but while SR is turn-based and has things like text adventures and the like, Drox Operative is something of a mix of 4X and action RPG. The 4X are the empires that fight, collude, barter and build all around you while the ARPG is you in your mercenary ship fighting for (or against) these empires. Basically you’re a merc inside a 4X game someone else is playing.

As much as I love Space Rangers, I far prefer Drox Operative.

Drox has a demo, if anyone is on the fence. The game didn’t do anything for me, sadly.

Thanks for the replies re Drox. When will I ever have the time to play all these cool-sounding games?

Kinda hoping Drox goes on sale during the next Steam sale. I’d probably maybe possibly scoop it up.

Welp, the code worked on me. I just got SK, GC3, and OTC: 90 bucks I didn’t intend to spend. All registered on Steam and yet more eyes from my backlog to taunt me.

Take on Helicopters super cheap (90% off)

I had totally forgotten that I wanted to check out Din’s Curse. How terrible is it though that the 50% Soldak discount isn’t enough to tempt me this close to the Steam Winter sales? I added Din’s Curse to my wishlist, which I have been doing a lot in the past few days in anticipation of the coming sales. I think I’m up to around 25 games on my wishlist now. Meanwhile, my backlog openly mocks me…
