I’m a little unclear as to why having a more visible rationale for the magic double-jump translates to better controls.

Researching this further, it appears that the Meat Circus was seriously reduced in difficulty for the Steam release. So if you think you were That Guy and didn’t play it on the console, it’s possible you weren’t really That Guy. I played the XBox version personally.

I also have the Steam version, which I vaguely mean to revisit sometime. After the 60-some other games in my Steam backlog.

I see my ‘that guy’ credentials are being assailed, to the keyboard Robin! I played Psychonauts on Xbox, PS2 and Steam. Oddly enough, the Steam version is the only one I didn’t complete, so I can’t speak to the difficulty of the Meat Circus on that platform.

I played on Steam, maybe 3 years ago, though to be fair I did it with mouse and keyboard. So, you know, whatever. Guess Pogue takes the crown

People are nostalgic for the time period when Double Fine finished their games.

Great, original setting, good characters and plot, really funny, decent-to-good platforming, very varied scenarios in both setting and gameplay, good length.

I would say “poor-to-decent” platforming, personally, but the real problem (again, my opinion) is that 3D platformers are very dependent on the tightness and polish of their controls or they descend into frustration pretty quickly. I just don’t think Double Fine had the right team to make a great 3D platformer, so they may have knocked everything else out of the park, but poor platforming is like taking an Achilles heel and making it an Achilles skeleton, if you’ll excuse the mixing of metaphors.

Did they not make the meat circus better in a patch? It was hard but not terrible when I got to it this year or last.

It’s the best game I said! The best!

Ok, it has some annoying bits, but what game doesn’t? But how many other games have paranoid conspiracies, kaiju, Napoleonic wargames, Mexican wrestling, nearsighted insane asylum guards, AND Mr. Pokeylope? None other games!

Also, the graphics/art totally hold up. I replayed it recently in 1920x1200, and it works in 1080p 3D on my TV too.

(p.s. Yeah, ok, this is all just, like, my opinion man, but I really like this game).

Psychonauts definitely has to be played all the way through to appreciate it, or at least played through some of the crazy imaginative levels. One of my top games of all time for sure.

OK, I’ll move Psychonauts higher on the backlog so I have a better chance of playing it some more.

I could never get part the section where you had to take on the bull in the bullring. Mind you, I was playing with m&k, now that I have a controller it should be a lot easier. It was also barely playable on my old laptop. In fact I probably did well to get as far as I did! Part of the reason I quit was rumours about the Meat Circus being even harder. Sometimes it pays not to take any notice of the internet. Ok, not even sometimes.

Less “that guy”, and more bargains!

Be warned, Deadlock 2 is inexplicably tied to Playfire client, while Deadlock 1 is a Steam key. Scooped up a pile of games and much to my surprise despite checking most of them (Including Deadlock 1), 2 wasn’t a Steam key. Half tempted to try wrestling with GMG support to ask for a refund on that one since it doesn’t make any damn sense.
