I get around that by buying other games digitally. That way I always have Destiny in the drive, ready to go for a short play session, and then I play some Forza Horizon, or other game that I have digitally. So instead of two swaps, I do no swaps by swapping between disc and digital.
Plus Destiny is the BEST game to play while multi-tasking on the Xbox. Catching up on the Daily Show, or watching an NFL game on TV, etc. You really don’t need to pay much attention to Destiny most of the time while you play.
That should be a box blurb.
You should believe that, because Amazon absolutely does do that, among many other things aimed at expanding their business rather than generating profits. From what I understand, they have never turned a profit. (Consider this article that was at the top of a Google search I just ran and which seems more or less understandable for people, like me, who are not business majors: http://a16z.com/2014/09/05/why-amazon-has-no-profits-and-why-it-works/ )
But they may also put things on sale to clear warehouse space or similar, certainly.

It depends, but not particularly. Songs of Yuletide is a free DLC released last winter.
Conquest of Constantinople does not exist.
Conquest of Paradise is the cornerstone of that deal, and the big get from that. Normally $15, though I’ve seen it on sale for $5 or less multiple times.
The rest are some mostly cosmetic DLC, most of which I have but bought at $.50 each during the last time they were on sale on Steam. They are nice, but don’t add meaningful gameplay, they just make the game look more diverse. Purple Phoenix is the exception, but the missions it adds are Byzantine specific, and so not something really helpful (as Byzantium is super hard mode).
If you don’t have Conquest of Paradise the deal is… ok. It’s higher than you’d pay if you wait for a big sale event (look what is just around the corner, I bet most of those will see 75% off). The DLC are mostly a good mix, and worth getting at sale price for the cosmetic bits, but I’d probably strongly advise against this pack. The fact they list one free DLC, and one non existent one really screams out to me that this is a bad deal. I’d recommend that you wait until the Steam winter sale, and then buy all those DLC when it comes up, as it most certainly will, for a total cost probably in the range of $12. Maybe less, depending on what CoP goes for.
Regarding the digital discount thing, Microsoft is by far the worst offender of the three console manufacturers. Sony does huge digital sales all the time, and while Nintendo doesn’t do crazy discounts, at least they don’t lock their sales behind a $60/year paywall.
Microsoft has been offering sales to non-Gold players for years. Not all, but some.
Speaking of Xbox discounts:
Countdown to 2015 sale
If you scroll down, some deals are open to non-Gold subscribers.
The only deals they offer to non-subscribers are holiday sales and occasional publisher sales. Their weekly deals are, with very few exceptions, locked behind Gold. They had gotten rid of the Gold requirement on most of the sales for a while, but brought it back in full force earlier this year.
Compare to Sony, who offer better discounts for PS+, but don’t require a subscription for their regular weekly sales (and generally offer a lot more discounts every week).
Okay, the point is that they do offer deals to no-subscribers. Your post implied that they did not.

I never bought Rome 2 because of the poor reviews. Was it ever fixed?
Emperor Edition (which is now the default edition for everyone) and all the patches that came between launch and it’s re-release as Emperor Edition have made Total War Rome 2 into the game most franchise fans hoped it would be at release. Nearly all of the problems that plagued the game at release are gone. It’s not only playable and stable now, it’s actually quite fun. Sure, there are still some quibbles with the AI quality, but the game looks, feels and plays far better than it did at launch. I would highly recommend that if you were interested in this game and skipped it because of the bugs and complaints at release, you give it another look now. It’s fantastic.
Plus, while the base game is cheap ($15) right now, there is a lot of good DLC (especially the campaigns) for the game, and they will almost certainly go on a nice steep discount starting Thursday when the Steam Holiday Sale kicks off.

Ok, you won me over. Thanks!
Christ, he convinced me. I became collateral damage!
I second all this. The campaigns are fantastic, and a muchmore focused experience than the base game (which is great, but daunting and looser).

I’ll re-post what I just wrote in the Rome 2 thread:
I’ve been playing Rome II since the start of December. I figured this was a good time to dive in with all the major patching being done and since almost all the DLC was cheap during the Fall sale.
As far as I can tell, most of the issues that plagued the game at launch have been addressed. The game still does the odd boneheaded Total War things, but it’s no longer completely stupid. The game is stable and hasn’t crashed on me yet, and the framerate is good with almost everything cranked up.
I’m still a little miffed to see that MP is so bare-bones even after the patching. What happened to the neat avatar map stuff in Shogun 2? Shame.
Why do you hate fun Tim? Why?! ;-)
