It’s true that I’m spending $1 on many of these, when I used to automatically go for Beat The Average because it was a great deal.

Best Buy has a BOGO sale on 3ds titles! Including a lot of top hits (Bravely Default, Pokemon X/Y, Link Between Worlds, etc)

Oh… wait. All of the games aren’t available for shipping… And they aren’t available for in store pick up.

Give me an effin’ break. No wonder these big box electronic stores are failing. The one thing that keeps them going over digital distribution is sales and offers. Can’t even do that right. (And I have talked to a few people across the country, apparently these are all gone in store as well as online)

Uggh.

From what I’ve read on CAG, many people were at Best Buy on Sunday, buying up games from the get go. Since there’s no limit to the number of games purchased, a few bad apples can spoil the sale for the rest of us.

I don’t really see it as being Best Buy’s fault, but rather the number of people ready to pounce on this deal.

Well, it is their fault for continuing to promote the sale while having literally no stock. I talked to someone from CA on twitter and they said they showed up an hour after open on sunday morning to find no games at all.

I hate it when retailers pull this stuff, it is like the car dealership saying “Come on down for 5000$ off your purchase” and in fine print it says the first 3 customers get the deal. I can understand running low on stock from a sale, but literally 2 days after the start having no stock within 200 miles of my house doesn’t count as a sale in my book. More of a marketing ploy to make me login to my best buy account (for the first time in years) And they could have solved these issues with a “1 deal per customer” limit.

Do companies offer rainchecks any more? That used to be the solution to this sort of thing years ago.

I have to say, I’m amazed that they’ve been cleaned out like this. Who bought all of those copies?

Ha, a few years back I searched for many months before finding a physical copy of this, way before GoG or Steam got a hold of it. $1 would be a reasonable convert to remote storage fee for any game.

Dammit, this is bad news I was going to pick up a few 3DS games from BB this week.

As to who is buying, pretty much everyone with a 3DS. Nintendo is holding to premium pricing for almost all of its first-party games. Discounts are rare, and great discounts are rarer still.

Apparently rain-checks are a no go for this.

This is why I don’t buy things at stores. My girlfriend is always like “Why do you buy everything online?” I say… “Because I can get what I want, and I don’t have to drive to the store to see that they are sold out”. Best Buy, fix this, and I will shop there. I used to go to Best Buy all of the time. Peruse the aisle, buy some DVDs. But it is pointless now, they don’t have anything I want. It could be as easy as, “We’ll order that for you and have it shipped to your house, thanks for stopping in”. Why can’t that happen?

Rain-checks mostly went away around about the time businesses started using sales as loss leaders to entice people into the store, or as clearance opportunities. It doesn’t make financial sense to give people rain-checks if you’re taking a hit on profit per unit. In one case it’s literally costing the store money to sell the item, in the other situation, they just want to get rid of older stock to make way for new stuff. Either way, letting someone hold on to a coupon for later defeats the purpose of the sale.

Even when stores have a rain-check, they first offer a substitution. “Buy this similar item for 30% off today!”

I’ll probably grab the Humble Bundle in anticipation of someone picking Anachronox for the Classic Game Club somewhere down the line.

Same here. I already own it on GoG, but for $1, why not own a Steam copy too?

The Banner Saga at GOG is on sale $12.49 - (50% off) for the next 24 hours or so. Ends July 24 9:59am GMT.

In the Humble Bundle, Mini Ninjas (in the $1 tier) also deserves some attention. It’s far from challenging, but it’s relaxing and I liked its silly vibe. Four years before Goat Simulator, this game already allowed you to run around as a rabbit, a bear, a boar, or a frog. Well worth a dollar.

My son says that WalMart had them in stock and matched the deal when he showed it to the on his phone.

Now if only there were a decent wal mart within driving distance of me.

You’ve raised him well. Good job.

Thanks for the heads-ups on both the Walmart price match and free The Sims 2, guys! I’ll make an effort to pick up A Link Between Worlds and Kirby Triple Deluxe on my way home, and with the free Sims, my sister can finally stop borrowing my Origin account.
