I played space rangers and space rangers 2. Is this game a different game than those or is it just a HD version of one of them?

It’s an HD version of SR2 with the expansion content, updated soundtrack, pirate-specific content and more. It’s worth owning even if you have the others, which I do. ;)

If you have a controller, I would recommend picking up Binary Domain asap. It has a big of a slow start, with lots of cutscenes and scripted events, but once it gets going it’s pretty relentless. The feedback on landing a headshot or taking out an enemies legs and watching them crawl towards you never stops being gratifying. Even the goofy characters grew on me. It’s super schlockly but it’s probably just behind Vanquish as my favorite 3rd person shooter of the last few years.

Another recommendation for Binary Domain here. It is, along with Alpha Protocol, one of the most underrated games of the past few years in my opinion. Played it with M+KB and had no problems!

So this is probably like the third or fourth time I’m buying Space Rangers. The lure of more SR goodness is irresistible. I hope this pirates add-on is good.

That’s good to hear, bandidoquest. I had read it was awful without a controller so I never even tried it. I’m with you on Alpha Protocol, too. Both are underrated gems that deserve a wider audience.

I was just thinking that as I hit the purchase button.

It’s better with a controller than with mouse and keyboard?

If anyone wants Binary Domain, I think I have a spare code from Amazon that I never redeemed.

That’s what I had heard from the initial impressions but bandidoquest didn’t have a problem. Maybe it was overblown whinging or was fixed in a patch? Maybe it was because the options/config menu is an external application?

I’ve never tried it with anything but a 360 controller, so I’m not very helpful here. I just remember some folkswere upset back in 2012. PCGamingWiki describes the post patch mouse controls as “a little cheesy,” so make of that what you will.

It has been a while since i’ve played this game (picked up in a sale far after its release), but from what i remember…

No. It is a shooter with a HEAVY focus on positional damage. This gives a huge advantage to using a mouse/keyboard, all other things equal.

I think i remember controlling your partner on PC being kind of awkward, but that is about it. I do not remember any serious mouse/keyboard problems and i certainly did not play it with my 360 gamepad.

Great great game. One of the best shooters i’ve played in a long time. Interesting story and great gameplay. This game is everything a 3rd person shooter should be.

I own it and never installed it, but comparisons to the amazing Alpha Protocol made me install it tonight. I’ll play it as soon as I can tear myself away from the Elite: Dangerous beta tomorrow.

They actually did improve the keyboard and mouse controls a bit. Was sloppy at launch, for example only giving controller button prompts in the game, but then they patched it and (IIRC) it’s now an option in the launcher. Think there was some other weirdness they cleaned up but it’s been long enough I don’t remember. It definitely plays great using kb/m though, that’s what I used.

And a non-spoiler protip if you want to get the best ending for Binary Domain, hiding behind cover and popping robots is a trap. Ideally you want to be running and gunning.

I wish they would make SR 3 instead of these “remakes” of the same game.

Probably not going to happen, especially in any sort of way you’d want to see. The people that made the Space Rangers games don’t have the rights to do more, IIRC, and anyway are busy churning out King’s Bounty games.

Was just coming here to post The Fall-- it is $5. Been looking for this one to drop, it is an extremely well reviewed indie game. You play as the AI inside a combat suit trying to get your pilot medical attention. It’s kind of a side-view adventure game with very minor action elements. Kinda. But extremely well-written with tons of atmosphere.

The Fall looks pretty good, and for that price I can just pretend I was about to take up smoking and then immediately quit and put my pack of smokes money on the game. It practically pays for itself!

Yeah! Or you could pretend you’re about to start doing cocaine, then put $5 of that money into The Fall and the rest into crack rock!

Whoa, let’s not go crazy here. I should probably start with an imaginary gateway drug, then work my way up to pretend crack. Maybe when the Witcher 3 comes out I’ll be ready to kick that non-habit.
