Yeah, I like Dredmor ok but I can’t find it in my heart to love it. I think a big part of that is finding actual graphics in a rogue-like to be kind of distracting. Guess I’ve finally crossed over into cranky-old-man-ville.
I’m OK with graphics. It’s the silly, and the insufficiently grognardish character system. I should like silly, but it makes it hard for me to invest in a game’s decisions.
I got heavily into Orcs Must Die (no data) / Orcs Must Die 2 (161 hours), and those are silly. Yet the silly is mostly the storyline, not the traps. Those are kinda serious. They aren’t covering orcs in custard pies.

Don’t bother. It never gets better. After three hours, you will have seen most of the art and humor, which are really the only things the game has going for it. The mechanics never get interesting. If you’ve played other traditional roguelikes and don’t NEED nice graphics to enjoy them, then there are a ton of better-designed options out there.
This may not be the thread for this kind of thing, but I just got a coupon for 60% off something called “Drunken Robot Pornography” on Steam. Maybe I should wait until the wife’s not around to click the link …
That’s the latest game from the people who did AAAAaaaaAAAaaaaaaAAAaaaAAA!!! (Approximate title) It’s SFW.
I was joking, don’t really think Steam is peddling porn these days. The description calls it a ‘first person bullet hell shooter’, sounds kind of crazy. Any good?

I’m sure when people request more female protagonists that’s what they had in mind :-)

Sakura Spirit supposedly toes that line pretty closely- I think it got banned on Twitch.
I’d vote ToME over Dredmor myself, but it’s close. Still prefer a good MUD to a roguelike though.
Steam today: Murdered: Soul Suspect - $24.99 - (50% off).
Pretty good discount on a very recently-released adventure game.
I’d recommend skipping it at that price though. Scooped it up for basically free due to trickery and it’s not particularly good, both in gameplay and writing. Has some cool ideas but it’s sure as hell no ghost LA Noire.

Recently $12 at GMG as well. It seems to have bombed hard enough that you’ll be able to grab it for sub-$10 shortly.
Hard enough to close down the studio.
New Monday Bundle over at IndieGala.com is $1.79 for 24 hours before price increase and includes:
[ul]
[li]Omegalodon (Steam)
[/li][li]Giana Sisters : Twisted Dreams (Steam)
[/li][li]Helldorado (Steam) - looks interesting
[/li][li]Robot Rescue Revolution (Steam)
[/li][li]Diamond Dan (Steam)
[/li][li]Guise of the Wolf (Steam)
[/li][li]Koala Kids (Desura + Greenlight)
[/li][/ul]
Over at the Square Enix Humble Bundle there is only 24 hours left. They added a couple of Hitman games, Last Remnant and Just Cause to the BTA tier ($9.25 currently), but even the $1 PWUW tier is a steal on that deal.
Steam has new Weeklong Deals up that include some decent titles like:
[ul]
[li]Warhammer 40K Space Marine is $7.50 (it’s been cheaper in bundles though)
[/li][li]Jagged Alliance 2 Gold is $4.99
[/li][li]Time of Wrath is $2.49 for grognardy types
[/li][li]Two Worlds 2 is $3.99 (good RPG for the price, way better than the first one)
[/li][li]Two Worlds Collection is $7.99 (contains Two Worlds, Two Worlds 2 plus DLC and Two Worlds 2 Castle Defense)
[/li][li]Geneforge Saga is $3.99 (contains Geneforge 1-5)
[/li][li]Warhammer 40K Dawn of War Master Collection is $9.49 (Contains Dawn of War GOTY, Dark Crusade, Soulstorm and Winter Assault)
[/li][li]Space Empires IV and V Dual Pack is $4.99
[/li][/ul]
Thanks Slainte for the weeklong post.
Steam today: Killer is Dead - $11.99 - (40% off).
A Suda51 / Grasshopper Manufacture joint. It doesn’t seem to be the Killer 7 sequel everyone hoped for.
Thanks! Almost forgot to buy that one.
They have a new flash running too:

AaAAaaAAAa… bonus levels & improvement thing
Monster Loves You

Drunken Robo Porn
I recommend grabbing the pay whatever tier. AaaAA is a pretty unique game and worth experiencing, but it’s not for everyone. WEotW is like Katamari. I haven’t played it enough to say if it’s good or not. MLY is a kid-friendly choose your own adventure thing. I liked it, but it’s extremely short - 30 minutes for a playthrough.

Xbox One controllers priced $40.00 at Cowboom, was $47.34 after shipping & tax for me.
Origin code for Plants vs Zombies Garden Warfare for PC (highly recommended) is $20 at Gamestop. Use code SUMMERPC for 10% off orders over $15. H/T cheapassgamer.
My understanding is that Suda wasn’t actually involved to any significant degree in the production of Killer is Dead, which is why it’s more self-consciously weird than actually insane. From the LP I’ve been following it seems pretty bland, to be honest. There’s “wacky” stuff but it boils down to very routine hack and slashing and there’s not much to the story side so far.

Somebody mentioned it in another thread (although I can’t find it now), but Target is having a buy-one-get-one-25%-off sale on online gift cards, which includes Steam cards. So I just basically got $40 in cash for $35, which seems like a good deal. They have $50 cards too, so you could get $100 for $87.50 (or more if you bought multiple cards), but it would take me a long time to spend that much on Steam.
