“Hard West” is one of the best of 2015? I thought the reactions were pretty mediocre. Then again, there are a lot of games on that list with Metacores in the 70’s

They’re a retailer, not game critics. It’s just a name for a sale.

Yeah, but when a retailer has a promotion like that it’s usually guided by critics’ lists, not just a bunch of random titles.

“Bunch of Random Titles” is GMG’s middle name!

I bought the lowest tier of the humble bundle because I wanted Qvadriga. I’ve heard good things about OlliOlli, but I’m not sure it interests me, so I’m not sure if I should activate it or give it away. Does OlliOlli have complicated button combos to remember or is it pretty simply and more about timing?

It’s just VIP transposed into a “sale”.

It’s mostly timing. You occasionally want to use the kickflip instead of the ollie to get a bit more horizontal distance, but with the rest of it you’ll be fine button-mashing whatever tricks you want to do. There’s the occasional goal of “do trick x” but the button combo is either mentioned in the goal itself or you can look it up really quick in the in-game reference.

Thanks corkeh

One of the best shooters of the last half-decade–Insurgency–is going for less than the price of a good cup of coffee right now on Steam ($2.24)

That looks like multiplayer only? Or is there a single player component too?

MP only…or heavily focused on that. Several modes though including a few co-op modes against stunningly good AI if you don’t like adversarial. I really enjoy the co-op, well thought out, not tacked on at all.

We must be playing different games ;)

Still, the coop game is pretty entertaining and a good way to learn the maps, but the heart of the game is playing MP and dying to a rocket at the marine spawn on push-sinjar 20 times before your side runs out of reinforcements and the insurgents win.

While AI in shooters never compare well to actual humans I found Insurgency’s AI very competent, especially on higher difficulty levels. Comparable to a FEAR level. Achieved with a lot of smoke and mirrors, but convincing in the end. Play co-op on the highest difficulty (realism I think) and wins come few and far between. YMMV though.

Nice little Every Monday Bundle over at IndieGala.com today. $1.99 for the first 48 hours nets you:
[ul]
[li]Life is Hard (promising looking strategy management game)[/li][li]Super Trench Attack 2[/li][li]Goosebumps : The Game (well, the whole bundle can’t be winners…)[/li][li]Wyv and Keep : Temple of the Lost Idol (well reviewed co-op puzzle game)[/li][li]Gunpowder (interesting concept EA puzzle game)[/li][li]Krai Mira (EA RPG that claims the original Fallout as an influence)[/li][/ul]

I ought to be able to tell from the context whether EA means Electronic Arts or early access. But it still trips me up every time.

“Is Electronic Arts starting to publish indie titles now? Oh wait, no.”

Haven’t played it yet, but Krai Mira looks wickedly good.

Sometimes it seems like they can’t tell the difference themselves, like with Battlefront.

Almost looks like they pulled the tileset from Kingdoms. Looks super interesting.

Matrix are having a Xmas sale which includes a number of the older AGEOD grand strategy titles and Close Combat titles.

Although the AGEOD games are available on Steam as well, the discounts are only available if you buy from the Matrix store, if you want Steam versions it may be worth waitng for the Steam sale to see if Steam offers the same or better discounts.

Edit to confirm that Steam is offering the same discounts now that their sale has started.
