Gah, why is that tempting? It shouldn’t be tempting but it is tempting. Ugh.
Yeah, about as tempting as EA execs squatting over my face after drinking several bottles of Sunsweet’s finest. Which is basically what they did with the latest incarnation of Sim City.
Thanks for making me put my wallet away, buddy. :)
I picked it up, just because they refuse to put the expansion on sale for less than $10. So I have all the DLC now. I am sure I’ll invest many minutes of time playing it. :|
Most people liked the cities of tomorrow stuff, so I’ll give it go.
I just picked up Cities Skylines (?) and love it so far. From what I understand it might not be as deep as SimCity but is the better of the two. I’m new to this type of game, but am loving it so far. Lots of good resources online too, for tips etc.
EDIT: forgot to mention I bought it on sale from Steam.

It’s whispering to me too, but I’m a bit wary since it’s EA and they’re prone to pulling the plug on servers for games, and since it’s online only ehhhhhhhhhhhh.

Think there is offline mode now, added like a year or so ago.
Correct.
•Play Offline or Online: The choice is yours. Play anytime, anywhere.
It’s funny that they had to make that an explicit bullet point.

It sounds better than, “Play when our servers are working!”.

Bad Brian, BAD.
Listen, there are no spaceships in Sim City. In fact compared to the vast reaches of space these plots are downright claustrophobic.
In fact just do this instead. If you want a city builder, get Cities Skylines (on sale on Steam right now) and help yourself to some mods. Here is a spaceplane, or the Tyson-Sagan Space Center.
But remember Brian, friends don’t let friends buy SimCity 2013.
Let me help you with that.
As it is now SimCity is not a bad game. In fact, it’s a pretty good game. Skylines is still, overall, a better sandbox city builder, but SimCity does things that Skylines doesn’t - like giving you an actual challenge. The balancing act between expansion, RCI needs, and other factors is a lot more tense than in Skylines. (In Skylines, once you get past the early hump, you’re home free.) While the very small city plots are still an issue, and the much-vaunted inter-city dynamics don’t work worth a darn, I think you’d easily get $8 worth of play out of it.
Maxis doesn’t exist anymore so you are giving EA all of your money from this sale. ALL OF IT.
-Todd
No, he’d be giving all of his money for the game to GameStop who, unless they’re selling the game at a loss, paid EA somewhat less for it. Of course, unless someone besides EA succeeded to Maxis’ intellectual property rights, EA kept all the money GameStop paid them for it.
Well, yeah, there’s that. :) It may or may not be a bargain (I haven’t played the latest SimCity), but it’s not like you’d be buying it from GOG.
EA and GameStop! That is even more disgusting…amazingly.

Huh. Well if there’s offline play now so I’ll still have access to it when EA inevitably kills it I may pick it up at that price, EA and Gamestop squatting over my face or no. I’m not hugely in to city builders so I like picking them up cheap since I (Usually) don’t play them super heavily anyway. Also not terribly thrilled about picking things up for Origin but again at that price for the complete set I can’t complain too much.
I’d take Cities Skylines over SimCity any day of the week.
But hey, at that price, why not own both?
(I’m not helping am I?)

Everything worked out in the end. Gamestop chokes each time I try to complete the order, and I can’t be bothered to try getting support to actually buy the game.
