Interestingly, Squad is free to play on Steam this weekend and 50% off, down to $19.99 which is the best (and rare) sale since it hit Early Access a while back.
I might try this if I can spare a few moments. Squad is one of those games I would absolutely adore back when I had the time, but I worry that I just don’t have the time or committment for something like this now. Squad kind of straddles between Insurgency and Arma 3.
Squad is great… If you can get a good group going and you can stand even more jank than Arma 3.
I was eyeing that Walmart ad again. Titanfall 2 and Battlefield 1 are in the front section of the ad, doorbusters at $27. I know Battlefield 1 will probably be gone at that price pretty fast, but maybe Titanfall 2 will still be available if I go stand in line and go to Walmart on Thanksgiving night?
Normally I’d never do that, but this year the family is not getting together on Thanksgiving for the first time since 2004. So it will just be me and my wife. I might as well use the opportunity to get some savings on video games!
Make it a family affair! Invite your wife to wait in line with you.
Titanfall 2 was just $35 at amazon when I looked last night. Could be more worth it than braving black Friday, and the price may drop between now and then. …

I would never have the self-discipline. I would set it up for myself, play all the games, then pack it back up for them. Or just set it up so it’s waiting xmas morning, and nobody questions why the plastic wrap is off.

These days, the advantage of secretly opening the box and setting the system up is that you can get that bad boy updated painlessly and have it good to go on Christmas morning while everyone else has to endure gigabytes of painfully slow downloads or even network outages.

This. It is remarkable restraint for sure @DaveLong, but the update factor is a non trivial thing. I would actually strongly encourage doing at least that in advance.

Excellent point. Really, not opening it early and playing it yourself is doing your children a disservice. You are obligated to do this.
It goes back to that day 1 experience I was lamenting two years ago. This gen of consoles sucks to play out of the box. It’s hours - literally - of downloads and set-up to even start enjoying the first game.
And that’s if the network hasn’t gone down due to DDoS attacks or just plain overcrowding on Xmas morning.

At this point, if you don’t open that console right now and start playing it I’m calling child protective services.

I’d do it too @DaveLong! Stusser has some very strong opinions on OS’s (understandably)
This x1000. When you get a free game with your console and it’s a digital copy, good luck downloading it on Dec. 25th.
Man I love Steve Gaynor.
Gone Home free for the weekend.
Apparently a lot of people are paying for the game anyway and Fulbright are donating the money to Lamda Legal.
Yes, Amazon is price matching Target’s deal. I’m also waiting and seeing if Black Friday deals from Xbox Live and PSN are pretty good this year. There’s usually one or two deals each year which are excellent, but usually not the ones I’m hoping for. So the odds that they’ll have digital versions of Battlefield 1 or Titanfall 2 for $27-$35 on the digital stores is probably too much to hope for, but who knows, it might happen.

Titanfall 2 , is now $30 at Walmart. PC and PS4 versions.
Wow, I should have waited.
Yeah I know the feeling, this game dropped in price crazy fast.
Titanfall 2 was still $60 in store but they honored the online price so I picked it up this morning. I have no intention of playing the MP but at $30 that’s a steal for what’s hopefully 8-10 hours of great SP action.
