I’ve been checking the Amazon page for the PS4 Pro and it’s currently listed as $340. It’s not on the deals page, so I’m not sure how long it’ll last.

@Rock8man

Not sure if you prefer digital vs. physical but Amazon has a deal right now for $11.47:

I know this could also go under the “Humble Bundles are awesome again” thread, but thought it might get more eyeballs here. Big Unix book bundle, nice O’Reilly stuff.

Nice price! But damn, for game like Minecraft it would be much better to go in and out. It is not ideal to have to look for and insert the disc every time you want to fire it up. At least, that’s my own concept for Minecraft. So I’ll wait for a sale on the digital version.

This is awesome, thanks!

While the $15 Hitman (2016) deal is dead, you can still get it for $16.25 buying it in 2 parts @ Gamestop.

I got keys for mine yesterday using the 2 links above. :)

amazon.de has some great prices for (physical editions of) PC games at the moment. A couple that seem exceptional:

Awesome, bought immediately. Thanks for posting this one!

Looks like the Amazon $340 PS4 Pro is out at the moment but I’ll keep an eye on it. It still seems crazy to trade up just to play one game at 1080p60 but under $200 (after trade-in) is kind of the magic number.

Sweet deal. People should jump on this if they’re interested.

I was all down for this until I saw there were about 7 books on shell scripting. I’m looking to save time here, not give myself a ton of redundant books to read!

Any particular gems here? I use vi enough that I should probably break down and learn it to save time in the long run. Same with the scripting.

Some other programmers will have to chime in on this too because I don’t use all the tools the books cover, but I have a prior edition of Unix in a Nutshell, and it’s been a very handy reference, easily worth the $1 tier by itself.

You’re right the selection could probably be a bit better and currently features some redundancy. The bundle contains two “pocket versions” of larger books in the bundle, not sure how useful those will be given that the pocket ones were more valuable in dead tree format and well, I guess you could call all ebooks pocket books of a sort.

I am not a big network guy so I can’t comment on the Network Troubleshooting Tools book. I think the Unix Power Tools one has a great title but I’m sort of going on O’Reilly’s reputation here as far as how useful it actually is until I take a look at it.

I went for the whole $15 tier just to have all of the books available for easy reference. The networking ones can be particularly useful, in my experience. Which consists largely of borrowing them from other people.

Thanks, @lordkosc.

I’m usually very happy with the Steam Japan store as the prices are usually “equal” (39.99 is usually 3980 yen) even though the American dollar tends to be stronger. But yes there is the odd, frustrating game, usually from 2K. That said, if you log into a VPN and then start up Steam, you should be able to unlock the game.

I won’t hide I am a bit paranoid when it comes to the digital realm, and the non-null possibility that I could be in some way locked out of my Steam account is enough to deter any region bypassing envy I might have. And well, that would have just probably been yet another brick on the Great Wall of Backlog.

This is the book you want for Vim - https://pragprog.com/book/dnvim2/practical-vim-second-edition

Shit. I guess I should’ve bought Battlefield One on BF instead of waiting for an even sweeter deal on CM because I’m not seeing anything that matches the BF prices.

Can anyone recommend the best bargain for a 1TB SSD or SSHD update for the PS4?

This is really a cautionary tale for everyone. I work for a big regional retailer and I can tell you without hesitation that you will rarely do better after Black Friday than you can do on the actual day. Always take advantage either online or in stores on BF. You won’t be happy with waiting anymore.

There was a time about five years ago when there were a lot of good deals after Black Friday, but that has since dried up. You can actually do better BEFORE Black Friday than you can after. Sorry, man.
