We’re discussing a two for one on pixels.
Go for it: do the quadrupling/16x one :D
Ah yes, but doubling a number and then calling 4x, that’s not weird at all. It literally isn’t 4000 in the same way 1080p is 1080
All this aside 4k is not worth it. At least to me. 2k with high refresh is worth it.

You double two numbers when you move to 4K. You double the 1080, and then you double the 1920.
The reason it’s weird is that people are trying to describe a rectangle using only its length. If you were trying to rent an apartment but the listing only had the distance from the front door to the back door, that would be equally weird.
Sure. the way they’ve always measured TVs and monitors is nuts.

I keep waiting for a super hot deal on a 4K TV to show up in here with all this TV talk… you guys disappoint.
But I think we just forecast crazy 640x480 monitor deals, if you are into those.

Well that certainly would be the talk of any party.
To be fair, it is also referred to as 2160p. It’s just the 4k naming really took off with marketers. That and ultra HD.
Using the vertical resolution instead of the horizontal was always a bit dumb considering aspect ratio variability. It’s how you get the, “umm actually, this movie is only 800p” dipsticks when the picture isn’t exactly 16x9.

Disagree. To my eye, both 1080 and 720 images look demonstrably better on both of the 4k sets I have than they did on the older 1080 sets they replaced. Looking at a PS3 screen (PS Store, lots of thin lined text) right now on the 4k Toshiba in my office and it looks great, better than the 1080 Samsung that was there before.
On topic, Yakuza Dead Souls is on sale for PS3 for $5 through Halloween. It doesn’t have great reviews, but at that price, it doesn’t have to.
Every marketer knows that whichever product has the biggerest numbers is the winner. Clearly the 4K one is 4 times as producty as the 1080 one.

If I can just sneak in between the monitor posts with a bargain, one of Tom`s frequent recent streams - One Finger Death Punch 2 - is also on a week long deal on Steam.
You guys realize there is a whole sub-forum on here titled “Hardware and Technical Stuff” where a discussion of television specifications would be far more welcome than in the BARGAIN THREAD.
Just saying…
In other words “Get off my lawn!” ;). Thanks for the bargains @SlainteMhath
You’re welcome! Does me yelling at people in this forum qualify as “Old Man Yells At the Cloud”? =)
