I could be wrong, but I think that’s the game in which I couldn’t figure out how to leave the first level.

I bought this as part of Humble Indie Bundle 4. Well, Cave Story+, anyway.

Here was my brief experience with it:

OK, help me out then. I installed it. I start in a room with a spinning disk, a heart symbol, and a door. When I go to each of these three places, the jump button does nothing, the Fire button does nothing, the swap left button does nothing, the swap right button does nothing, the map button does nothing and the pause button takes me to an empty inventory screen.

I don’t get it.

The only way to win is not to play.

So at that point, I thought the whole “Cave Story is great” thing was just some kind of big game equivalent of a RickRoll, and I was the victim. So whenever someone mentions Cave Story, I giggle, and stay quiet, so as not to give away the game.

But this getting chosen for the CGC means my interpretation was wrong?

And apparently I was wrong about that and just missed how to go through doors:

First, Rock8man: Cave Story is not an art game or a non-game or anything like that. It’s an indie platforming shooter of surprising depth. Sounds to me like maybe you just didn’t figure out the button to go through the doors? (Which is up or down, can’t remember which.)

I should try it again.
