Battle Brothers Hits Early Access

Regarding using map seeds. I just learned that you need to type in the seed number you wish to use. Copying and pasting them in corrupts the seed. What I found is that the attributes of the bros changes when copying and pasting the seed number.

Actually the seeds are 6 digit but the slot you paste into is 8 digits (why? I have no idea) and the paste function automatically spams your 6 digit paste twice, filling all 8 slots. If you paste, then delete the last two letters, it works fine.

I would say if health is low and you plan on taking the Colossus perk, then boost health first, defense second. Otherwise go for defense.

As to resolve, you really only need one guy with high resolve: your seargent who will be positioned in the middle of your pack, carry the standard, wear the banner, and use the “Rally the Troops” ability when others break. Rally has a 4 hex radius so one guy with Rally can generally prevent freak outs.

As for initiative, it really only matters if you plan on taking Anticipation. You definitely need to get your attacks skills to 70-ish IMO.

It varies by the dude, but generally I would say:

offense/stamina - top priority
health/defense - second priority
resolve/initiative - 3rd priority

I played this game near release, and it was too hardcore for me. Also, I prefer a game with more narrative.

This is immensely helpful! It’s like you just cleared the fog for my eyes: thanks!

Weird thing in my new game. Right away after the first mission there were 2 star missions in most cities and I’m finding it hard to find 1 star missions I can actually do. I’m using a seed that starts your 3 brothers off with iron lungs and the map seems OK.

Camps - so people have talked quite a bit about kinda farming bandits/brigands. Do these spawn off camps on the map? And if so, would you want to leave them be so they can keep spawning, if they indeed come from actual camps that can be destroyed?

I don’t know about the spawning bit, but once I locate camps and lairs I save them for the collect x gold per head missions, then go there and clear the place out and collect the loot and turn in the heads for the bounty.

I started my first game. This looks interesting.

Let me tell you, that den with a few Orc Berkserkers I walked past on my way to fetch my payment after the tutorial mission… that was something.

Looking forward to staring my second campaign!

I ran like six or seven starts on this game (all under 10 days) after reading the setup guide. Trying different strategies of how to build a party for tanks/archers/flankers. I would always get too aggressive with who I attack and then near party wipes take place. Then with the last iteration, after the initial quests, I walked into the Tavern and heard there was some named armor to the east. I decided to check it out, and it was a very easy to kill the garrison, and I received not one but TWO named armor pieces. Party has not looked back since.

So Luck plays a part, but certainly not combat roll luck.

That’s cool. I’ve never really gotten useful information from the travel before so I stopped paying attention. Excited to check more frequently.

fantastic idea

Regarding the Tavern folk, I scan the text for a direction (South-East, North, etc) and get more interested if I see that. They will also tell you in a hint what cities have contracts for you.

I have seen camps spawn bandits…or at least the bands go in and out. If you know the location of a camp and fidget around there, sometimes you can find parties.

Yeah, all the bandit camps generate raiding bands. In fact, if you wait until just after a band emerges from the camp and then attack the camp, the number of bandits you’ll fight in the camp will be depleted. This can be handy.

In general, if you see a ton of bandit activity on the roads in an area, you can be sure there’s a bandit camp somewhere nearby. That’s my clue to hunt for it. Sometimes you can follow a band back to their camp. All, in all, it’s a pretty neat little sim.

Also, jpinard, when I say “go for bandits to get gear” I mostly mean prioritize attacking bandits roaming the map, even when it’s not your mission. Most other enemies can be ignored when you don’t have a mission as the only real reward they provide is experience. But bandits are only a moderate threat (usually) and often had decent loot. And as mentioned, a high rate of bandit traffic on a road indicates a nearby camp. I often the leave the camps in place to wait for a head hunting mission as mentioned above.

So as you travel, if you see random bandits, feel free to attack. If you see random others, it’s up to you.

Because it is Epiphany I will leave this gift here for you all.

This video by FilthyRobot has ten tips for new players, or players like me who should have been paying better attention.

I learned a few things, like:

  • When retreating, you don’t need to be on the hexes with dots, your guys can also be on the hexes adjacent to the dotted hexes. And you can retreat from any side of the map.

  • Taverns. You can pay for rumors up to four times in a row. Doing so increases your odds of learning about a location with a legendary item. I always stopped after paying the first time…

  • When fighting undead, once you drop them move to the hex where they fell and pick up their weapons. Then when they rise again (especially when they have a Necromancer) they are empty handed.

  • When farming for gear, I knew you should use daggers but I overlooked that you should use “puncture” to avoid damaging the armor and thus increasing likelihood that it will drop. Flails are good to have for farming armor as well.

  • For caravan escort missions, if you pause when close to a town then click on the town, you can enter the town.

Party on!

Geez, these are huge. Thanks!

One really nice thing about taking caravan contracts is that you don’t use any supplies while in the caravan. Many folks may skip these contracts since they don’t pay much but I love them as a way to get to the other side of the map very quickly without costing me any food.

Holy moley, some more Orc assaulted the caravan I was guarding. Time for Campaign #3.

Yeah, if you’re playing iron man, taking caravan contracts early in the game is very risky. You can get attacked by just about anything and being attacked by orcs early game is a death sentence (if you choose to fight them).

If that happens be sure you retreat in good order from the tactical map without engaging them and live to fight another day. You may get some wounds but at least your company will survive and can recover.

Thanks! That you don’t consume supplies when guarding caravans is a nice touch.

I described my experiences so far to a friend, and his response was: “So it is a rogue-like?”.

Does rejecting a mission hurt your standing with that faction? Or bartering uo to get more good for a mission and then having them get angry and pull the offer away, does that hurt yiur standing? Also, if you don’t try to get more good for a mission, doesnyur infouence go up faster?

It does not.
