Oh now I see the headshot indicator, right in the bottom middle of the screen where it shows my kills and who killed me.
Anyway, break time! I finally got an assault service star. That put me over 400 SPM. Time to work on some other games for a while. Then it’s back for Support class and air vehicles.
I’ve caught myself becoming a bit of a snob, to be honest. I find semi-auto rifles to be little more than a noob’s choice. Bolt-action or none for me!
One odd stats thing I noticed about myself: I seem to be good at Team DM, but my infantry SPM is pretty low in general. I’m 183 as assault and 212 as engineer. I notice when I play infantry on Conquest or Rush I’m simply not as effective as being in a vehicle in those modes. I flounder around. And yet the actual shooting I seem to be fine with in a deathmatch environment.
I’ll keep trying 64 player Conquest as infantry to see if something clicks.

When I get irritated on a server I tend to grab the newbie rifle, take the sight off, and amuse myself by counter-sniping people with the iron sights.
Thanks to the detailed stats, I now have proof of my lack of skills in this game:
W/L ratio: 0.964
K/D ratio: 0.547
SPM: 152.54
The only thing where I rank somewhat ok (top 10%) is in support roles:
Heals per assault minute 3 775 6% 14.568
Resupplies per support minute 3 701 6% 1.254
Repairs per engineer minute 3 597 7% 0.177
I realize that I have a hard time adjusting to the flow of the BF games. I do fairly good when just running around with the PP-2000, shooting and killing at random. But when I try to slow down, grab an AR and be tactical, my K/D goes down the drain. I absolutely suck at mid range combat with the ARs. Especially with any scope attached. And especially with the M416…
I had some success with the SKS, though, but that was probably because I adapted a more sneaky playstyle, setting up ambushes and flanking.
Since I gravitate to support roles, close combat weapons suits me better, I guess.
And I’m absolutely horrible at flying the jets. No kills at all in those. I usually grab any vehicle available when I spawn (because they are fun to ride), and I’m almost ok at flying the helis. But the jets are just a fun ride ending in a big ball of flame for me.
Actuall, I’m kind of crap at all the vehicles… Still spawning in them as often as possible though :)
And now I have the Assignments to work on. Unlocked the Famas. Great ROF, but a horrible reload time. And no underslung GL, which will make it kind of useless for the next Assault assignment.
Haven’t managed a torch kill yet, but that is mostly because I just pull the trigger on my main weapon when when the opportunity presents itself.
Still enjoying this game immensely. Always something fun to do.

Mid-range is great with the ARs if you can train yourself to fire in bursts (or use burst mode - something I can never get used to). Eventually you should be able to automatically fire just enough bullets to be sure of the kill as second nature.
The FAMAS is a beast to deal with because of the recoil. If you’re struggling to handle Assault I couldn’t possibly recommend it above, say, the F2000.

The reload and the recoil make the FAMAS an extremely lethal but very unforgiving weapon. I like it a lot, but if you’re struggling I would very much recommend the F2000 or the M416 (probably the former).
As for the grenade launcher assignment, don’t worry about going underslung, just take it instead of a medkit for one round of Metro and you’re golden. I literally got seven kills with one grenade at one point.

Also, for close-to mid range I recommend the Holographic sight. It gives a nice wide viewing angle and you don’t find yourself hunting for the target once you’re aiming in. Plus you avoid the tunnel vision thing that ACOGs and other closed-system scopes can give you.

I’d go so far as saying that I avoid anything that isn’t Holo/Reflex (or IRNV on some rare occasions) if I’m not Recon.
This game can be frustrating to the point where it’s no longer fun.
I was on a low-ping server last night which had a full complement of 64 players, most of whom were higher ranks (major, colonel). I’m a lowly PFC and the next lower ranked player was a master sergeant. Most of the time I couldn’t get anywhere near the combat area before getting picked off by a bad guy that I couldn’t even see. A couple of times I lasted all of 5 seconds after spawning before getting killed.
One time, I did manage to get into the action and found myself about 15-20 yards behind a bad guy who was crawling up some rocks. He didn’t realize I was there so I took careful aim and hit him with short, controlled bursts from my assault rifle. In the blink of an eye, he turned around and blew me away. WTF? In less than a second, he realized he was being shot, figured out what direction he was being shot from, turned around, found me, aimed his weapon and shot me dead, all while I’m shooting him. How is that even possible? I had the drop on him, he was a total sitting duck. In the little popup that shows who killed you, I saw that he was some high-ranked colonel.
At that point, I gave up. How am I supposed to make any progress or be anything but a liability to the team if I can’t even get a kill in that ideal situation?

You should play on servers with less than 30 people on them, 64 gets very messy in some maps and i noticed that with fewer players i tend to do better.

Probably headshots. It took almost 50 hours before I got to the point where I wasn’t pissed off at 1v1 encounters like that. Now I win them instead.
If you’re good with this gun, you might consider taking an assault rifle with dot/holo sight, foregrip, and laser sight. That gives you great hip accuracy like the PP-2000, but you can still kill enemies at greater distances when you aim down the sight. I love it, at least for TDM. (Thanks for the suggestion, Turin!)
The only concern is that by not taking the silencer, you’re making yourself vulnerable on the minimap. Decide whether you maneuver enough to make that work. You’ll have to be the aggressor.

The big 64 player conquest maps are ok too, I have not played any Karkand maps yet but 64 player Kharg Island/Caspian Border/Noshar Canals/Op Firestorm are all great. There are enough players to have a couple squads of infantry when all the vehicles are manned so you can play any class without being useless.
TDM is pretty good for developing twitch reflexes and unlocking gun attachments fast.
I have to correct myself: the pp-19 is not as good as I thought, it’s actually a bit worse than the p90.
Thanks for the update. I only used it for 2 or 3 games of TDM, but I couldn’t kill anything with it.
Damm, as a stargate fan i need to level up faster to unlock that P90!
I’ve landed some marksman headshots that baffled even me (sprinting laterally, at a distance where I usually miss stationary targets), and I sometimes wonder if there’s a hidden aim assist or something. Have not duplicated that success with the 1911 though.

Also not that good.
PDW in general are shitty.
The FN VAL is a fucking masterpiece, if you use it right. Once I’ve had my fun with the new weapons, I’m going back to it.
