I stupidly bought the regular edition with a £15 amazon voucher instead of the limited, is Back to Karkyland worth the £12.99 price tag?
As much as it makes me cringe, I think you should buy B2K if you’re going to play the game more than 10-20 hours. The original game has a few great map/mode combinations (see Turin’s post) but it’s going to get old playing them. In B2K I’d argue that all 4 maps are somewhat-good to great in all three of the major game modes.
Especially having more maps on rotations so you dont get bored playing the same thing always helps a lot, altho i would prefer if they take some of the maps in BC2 to BF3 :(
I was thinking the same thing, there’s a lot of great maps from BC2 that I assume could be pretty easily brought over. I would probably pay instantly for a BC2 map bundle if they released it.

As much as I think Caspian Border is arguably the best map in the core game, its rush variant is COMPLETE SHIT. That first set of MCOMs on the highway is brutal and unfun, and the rest aren’t much better.
Not a good Rush map, which is sad because it is IMO otherwise a classic map.

It’s only brutal because a competent SOFLAM/Javelin team can fuck you up. The trick is to get a foothold on the outer buildings (hey, a spawn beacon is actually useful for once) and then you can murderise them quite effectively, giving your vehicles a chance to make a difference.
It’s a good flanking map too.
Being the support ammo jockey for a few javelin teams on that map is a glorious sight. Watching missiles blast skywards in that lovely blue sky, only for them to smash groundwards and end some poor sod’s tank run, is superb. An even better sight is when helicopters get knocked out of the sky, now that’s entertainment.
Is that bad? Usually people complain of linear rush maps where the action is funneled to a “corridor”, which is an advantage to the Defenders, but that’s the opposite case an open map like Caspian. That said, it’s true it also can be a bit hard because the lack of cover to advance from the spawn to the objective area: it’s open and flat.
It’s not that open to begin with though and flanking is difficult because either side of the highway is uncovered. I find the best way to get those first few MCOMS is to do helicopter drops behind the stations.

Yeah, stage one isn’t “open”, it’s two flanking points between a killing zone.
From what i remember, the path was wider than it seems at first, you can advance by the edge of the flanks in a more discrete way without being beaten to death everytime.
But I would have to try it now to be sure.
I just got the B2K pack and all I all can say is…yes. Definitely brilliant.

Man, the MAV, when used well, can really be a game changer. Even in a public game without a microphone it’s dangerous, so I can only imagine what an organized squad can do with it.
I’m starting the think that MAV and T-UGS spotting, and repairs should be worth more points. I had a great run keeping a tank alive last night and barely got 800 points, while the two squadmates in the tank finished the round near the top of the list. It’d be nice to get some token points for the tank-load of kills they were able to rack up because I kept their sorry asses alive.
You should’ve told that tank driver to go capture some flags!

It would have been tough for me. It was Damavand Peak on conquest, so it was easy for me to hide behind the tank while we were in tunnels, but the moment we got out of the tunnels I was way too exposed and died almost immediately. Still a good run, but it would have been nice to come away with some more points!
edit: And there, finally, is my thousandth post. At this rate I will reach two-thousand some time in 2019.
Does anyone else join a public game and seeing your squad mates waiting for the game to start and you start jumping up and down with them? I love doing that.
Never! It always reminded me of the Quake days when we were all hyper kids too impatient to wait for the countdown clock. I also hated it in TF2. If I started doing that, it would indicate to me personally that I needed a break.
In BF3 I always turned toward the vehicle I wanted, then checked the minimap to estimate my chances of getting there before someone else did. Or I pointed myself exactly where I wanted to go. I was usually the first one out the gate. It provided some miniscule extra bit of focus before the game started.
I always read it as a camaraderie thing :C :C :C

I do it too! Sometimes I start it and others follow suit. I do it just to give me something to do and get ready.
