What if someone ran around and randomly shot people?
Hey does anyone know if they ever went through with that FAMAS nerf? When I tried it recently, the recoil felt really high to me. But maybe I wasn’t used to it anymore after using PDWs a lot.
Just found out a couple friends from work have been playing this. I might hop back on for a couple games and take them for a high-scoring jaunt in a tank or something.
Nope, the nemesis ribbon and I’m doing it on the 360 :)
I did finally finish out each of the kits. Recon was a bit of a love has thing. It’s great when you can get the beacon set up or drop the sensor in good spots. Soflam seemed like a very thankless task except on Caspian Rush.
The USAS needs to be nerfed, badly.
That was fun. I joined my friend from work, who has 100 SPM after 50 hours with the game, and drove him around in a tank. Every time we died I told him to check the scoreboard – I was MVP by a mile with tons of kills – and he just laughed. Unfortunately he didn’t have a good feel for repairing, so it was mostly me on the mic telling him to jump out fast in various critical situations (javelin hits, duels with a tank, etc.)
Fortunately I don’t feel compelled to return to BF3 after that brief taste. I’m happy to stay retired.
I just got the USAS. Hopefully it’s worthwhile. I think my goto shottie is the 1014. I loved the DAO-12 and I was disappointed by the Saiga. It doesn’t seem to be as awesome as it was in BF2.

As far as I know the USAS is only overpowered on consoles, where it hasn’t been nerfed yet. I never see anyone run with on PC.
I’m “mixed” on it. It’s reliable up close, such as arming MCOMs or close range Team DM. I certainly racked up a lot of wins and MVP ribbons with it. Even then, it doesn’t kill as fast as I’d like. Sometimes it takes an extra hit, and I’m “disappointed” when I can’t kill three enemies clustered in a room before they kill me. It’s like the canister shot - so dominant that I get mad when it’s not completely godly.
It sucks at any kind of range though. You’re better off running away. That’s why I lean slightly toward the MP7. It’s a little more versatile and still almost instant death. I only miss the USAS when I get killed at point blank range.
Well, I can personally vouch for it being OP on consoles. I’m on PS3 since my PC isn’t up to snuff. The USAS on consoles has started to run rampant, there’s at least 3 people in every server using it with frag rounds, and it’s practically unstoppable. It desperately needs a nerf, one or two good players using it can really ruin the experience for the other team.
To be clear, I think it’s the frag rounds specifically that were the problem. They were nerfed on PC. I don’t recall the USAS itself ever getting rebalanced.
I never got a chance to play with frag rounds in the early days, so my metagame commentary above applies to the current USAS on PC with buckshot.
I thought they addressed frag rounds on the consoles too?
Btw, what’s the deal with canister shot? I “Tim James’ed” the MBT until I unlocked canister shot and I’m not seeing what’s so awesome about it. I figure that it has something to do with how I’m using or not using it.
I posted about it.
Along with proximity scan, it’s highly geared toward anti-infantry. If you’re not running around capturing flags as fast as possible in a tank, you might as well take guided rocket and that extra armor perk instead. The idea is to sit at a flag while it captures, then use scan and thermal optics to kill infantry when they think they can sneak around or make a break for it. Most of them seem to be completely oblivious.
As much as I talk it up, it’s not perfect. I get frustrated when I don’t get a one-hit kill, usually because I just plain missed. That puts you in a bad spot.
Thinking about my playstyle some more, I think it works because it draws infantry into your trap. Most flag locations are designed to give infantry an advantage. (That’s probably intentional due to infantry’s traditional role of holding territory in the real world.) There are lots of places to hide and maneuver for a flanking shot with an RPG. I know if I saw a huge, slow tank sitting at a tight capture location, I’d go after him. And many good infantry teams do kill me in those situations. But on 32 player servers when it’s 1 or 2 guys, proximity scan, thermal optics, and canister shot actually flip the balance of power. They’re so close you know exactly where they are, and you can often kill them instantly when they expose themselves.
I don’t see many tank drivers playing precisely that way. That might be why no one expects it. Again, you have to commit to running from other tanks in many cases, and if you have a gunner you’re kind of overlapping with his job. I’m able to help my team so much with that playstyle that I don’t mind. Also remember you’re going to struggle a bit more on 64 player maps.
This is more about my playstyle than canister shot. It all integrates together. Still, you don’t have any better options in that perk slot other than guided rocket against tanks (or laser-designated helicopters). So it’s just a matter of how dominant it is.
I just unlocked it and I just shot down 7 helicopters in Noshahr canals with the canister shot. They had some really junk pilots on their team granted, but still the margin of error the canister shot allows you to have compared to the tank round for those types of situations is fantastic, and if you have the autoloader you can pretty much fire every second or so toggling between cannon and canister. I’m in love.
Time to try this out with the proxy scan.
Glad you like it. It’s perfect when an attack helicopter makes a run at you. They usually end up low at point-blank range. Or you can swing around and get them on the other side as they fly over you. I rarely kill them in one hit, but it’s usually enough to scare them off.
Other than that, I only take snap shots at helicopters that are really close or relatively stationary. It seems like every time I try to line up a shot at a distant helicopter, someone runs up and kills me with C4. So I’d rather ignore them and keep an eye on my minimap.
I never used autoloader much. Switching between cannon and canister is usually enough against infantry. But like I said earlier, if you miss both it gets a little dicey.
I just tried out proxy scan, it’s pretty incredible, I’ve never used it before, but I love getting people hiding behind walls and stuff, it’s like X-ray vision!
Patch notes and speculation at BF3Blog:
There have been many bits of information surrounding the upcoming Battlefield 3 patch, and we’ve taken to task to compile all the expected fixes and tweaks that DICE has confirmed will make their way into the new patch, which should be released in early February. The list of confirmed additions:
•Commo Rose 2.0: a complete overhaul of the “Q”-button communications interface, with new commands, voice overs, and more.
•Weapon specific accessory tweaks: accessories such as silencers, foregrips etc. will now be tweaked on a per weapon basis and not globally. All accessories are expected to be tweaked in this patch. For more, see a full list of accessory tweaks.
•A fix for MAV riding will be applied
•Random “Bad Luck” deaths will be fixed across all platforms.
•PlayStation 3 users will see a VOIP fix
•Drivers will now get 50 points for “vehicle assist kills”. Pilot assist points will be increased as well.
•Sniper rifles will get increased accuracy after aiming-down with Red Dot or Holo sights.
And a few unconfirmed patch notes, but issues/features that DICE are looking into:
•The USAS-12 with Frag rounds will be balanced (unconfirmed: DICE has said they are looking into it).
•The resupply speed on the M320 grenade launcher might get increased, according to DICE.
•Horn sounds will be added to Humvees and other transport vehicles.
•Fall damage is being looked into as well.
I’d prefer they don’t nerf the foregrip and silencer, but at least some of the other accessories get a bonus.
Yeah, I’m glad to see the heavy barrel getting some improvements, as well as the flash supressor.
