At this point I’m very close to putting down the game until they rebalance the USAS and frag rounds on consoles. It’s started to run absolutely rampant, with entire squads taking advantage of it. I try to take it all in stride (one or two players I can handle), but it’s getting out of control. Some rounds feel like unreal tournament insta gib games there’s so many people using em.
Aside from that, I’m finding it really challenging to get kills in the jet. I consider myself a pretty good pilot in past battlefield games, especially 1943, but I just end up flying around in circles this time around. I’ll get behind someone and get a few good hits but never finish them off, and heat seekers seem almost useless since everyone has flares equipped. Any advice?

Heat-seekers ARE almost useless, but a lot of people seem not to notice that you have TWO of them (it took me a long time to figure that out). If at all possible I try to launch the second one after the other pilot has popped his flares.

I thought of that but is there a point? The flares force you to need to lock on again, by that time you’ll probably be reloaded by then, especially if the pilot has stealth. I’m not sure where I’m going wrong, but I’ve gotten more jet kills with a helicopter than flying a jet myself.

No, the heat-seeker relock time is ever so slightly quicker than the flare reload time. If you fire and then start relocking at the first possible instant after flares, the second heatseeker will hit the target. I’ve done it dozens of times without fail from the attack helo and on some very far targets with a long travel time for the missile.

H.

I don’t remember if stealth changes the timing, but in both helicopters and jets, you can lock on again before flares reload. Missile reload time is even longer I believe. So he’s correct about keeping one missile in reserve. That’s how attack helicopter duels work at least.

It’s a bit harder to stay behind a jet to keep missile lock. In fact I just gave up trying and worked on my gun accuracy. I never quite got it with the X360 controller. But there are certainly experts out there that take me out in one burst.

Glad to hear about Comm Rose 2.0. Much needed.

I’ve given up on jet duels for the most part. It’s a fun meta-game on its own sometimes, but with the quick respawn time of jets taking one down can feel like a pretty hollow victory. I’ve found that a lot of jet players will miss/ignore you if you’re staying low and focusing on helicopters and tanks, and taking out either probably does more for your team.

That’s what has soured me on the game, the ultra-quick respawns compared to other BFs makes the kills unsatisfying. I just get frustrated when I kill two guys heading for a flag and know that they’ll be back in seven seconds, in BF2 and previous when I killed someone I affected the tactical layout of the land significantly.

H.

They’ll only be back in 7 seconds if a squad mate is alive or there’s a mobile spawn up, neither of which is beyond your control…

Yeah, I only find infantry respawn rates to be a problem when attacking a point, and then it’s just something you have to plan against. My beef is mostly with the jet and helicopter respawn rates; their combination of range, speed and respawn rate makes taking one down seem pretty empty. At least tanks are so slow that they take some time to get back into position. Personally I like it when vehicles are tied to specific CPs, like the jets in wake island, chopper in Sharqi Peninsula, and tank in Karkand.

edit: Thinking about it a bit more, I think I’d like jets to be slightly more effective against infantry and land vehicles, but have longer respawn times to compensate. It feels ridiculous to unload an entire rocket pod into a tank and, at best, disable it.

I get insta killed all the time by frogfoots when I’m in a tank, are their guns more powerful thanks the other jets?
I agree that jets need to be more useful to ground troops,I feel like I’m shooting a bb gun when I tty to strafe down a tank. Or at least a perk for tank shooting would be nice

Yep being Frogstomped is a regular occurrence. I tend to stay out of vehicles as I’m a missile magnet and there’s better players for that style of gameplay anyway.

I still say stingers should be stronger!

At this point, choppers are my air vehicles of choice, but I get envious watching all of these amazing jet kills on youtube.
Anyway, I’ve been spending lots of time using proxy scan + canister shot in the tank as Tim suggested earlier, it’s a lot of fun. Sometimes, it really feels unfair if you have someone keeping you repaired though, it’s allowed me to go through entire games of rush in intense combat without dying once and racking up crazy kill counts.

It’s also unfair to the guy repairing, as Zuwadza pointed out recently! I’m sure his score was a fraction of yours.

It makes it hard for your gunner to get kills too. I played a game with a friend from work last night. I had 20+ kills and he had 0. He’s not very good, but the machinegun will never be able to compete with canister shot and thermal optics.

Maybe that’s why I always ended up driving around by myself. Get used to being a lone wolf!

But the games I played last night reminded me that it’s not a sure thing even with someone to repair. You’re in trouble on 64 player servers when your team sucks, and the other team has great tank drivers and helicopter pilots and tons of Javelins. What a nightmare.

Yeah I did feel bad for my friend who was repairing, but he jumped in the gunner seat when I wasn’t eating missiles.
Tim, how’s the CITV station? I’m about to unlock it in the next few games.

It’s fairly useless in public games. It lets you laser-designate targets. If the tank driver has guided missile he can lock on to that (including air vehicles). I never stumbled upon that kind of coordination in a public game. You might get lucky.

It also has thermal optics so you can spot enemies. Unfortunately your view is frequently blocked by the physical model of the machinegun on the outside of the tank. If that’s moving around it might get in your way. The view is also forced to be zoomed so you don’t have the field of view to see enemies at mid-range (just outside of proximity scan range, which you provide automatically in any seat of the tank if you have that perk selected).

It’s still nice to be able to hop a ride if you’re stuck in base and the first two seats are full.

Shhhhhh, if people find out how good it is they’ll use it and it will get nerfed.

I don’t think it is THAT good, considering its not full auto.

It is wayyyy more reliable of a one shot killer than any other shotgun in the game.

What do you guys think of the co-op stuff?

It seems a bit uneven and difficult to me so far, though it might help if I had a headset.
