… And those same players would never jump ship mid-franchise. Modern Warfare tells a continuous story, does EA think they’re just going to duck out of the theater?
I don’t play MP much (almost at all), so for me BF3 is only potentially interesting because of its SP…
in fact, I would really like if studios offered SP and MP separately, so I would not have to pay for MP when I just want to play SP. Since they only offer both at the same time, it means I have to wait for a big price drop, or simply ignore the game at all. Because paying full price for 6 hours of entertainment while sponsoring huge MP portion that I do not care about…no way.
The single-player lacks the over-the-top grandiosity of COD. COD also packs more action in and around you. It’s very chaotic.
But the multiplayer completely destroys COD. No surprise, but based on the All Chats going on last night, there were a lot of newcomers to the franchise who were blown away and saying that it completely destroys Modern Warfare.

Are you sure? I think it’s the other way around:
http://www.oxm.co.uk/9358/30-of-call-of-duty-4-gamers-ignored-single-player/
I wouldn’t be surprised later Call of Duty games continued the trend of more people ignoring single player.
That doesn’t factor in people who don’t have online connections for their console, though, which was a shockingly high percentage of 360 and PS3 users at last count.
Basically, how many people play COD online regularly? Subtract that from the number of copies sold. Pretty sure you still have several million copies unaccounted for in the multiplayer roster. And that’s not even counting people who play multiplayer but also enjoy the campaign. Believe me, just like the Star Wars prequels, the backlashers are a minority.
Fact is, COD’s campaign is big, loud and stupid, but it’s a fun ride. Battlefield 3 is trying to do Tom Clancy, but none of it makes sense. COD doesn’t make sense either, but you’re too busy dodging Michael Bay’s pyrotechnics department to worry about it. I think the Black Ops-style framing device was a mistake, and I also think it came later in development. It just doesn’t match up with the events in the levels very well.

Did they fix the squad functionality like they said they were going to? How about the map? More like BF2’s map, instead of that hot mess from the beta?
Fix the maps how?
Frankly I feel the maps in the game are too small to comfortably support the 64 player matches. With ~20 snipers per side it’s just a spawn camping nightmare.
Despite being an xbox360 player, I’ve added myself to the list for people to add me on BattleLog. The unfortunate name aside (thanks Harkonis…), Battlelog is a nice website.
Had a great moment on Davamond Peak in Rush mode where I got the Littlebird just before we lost the second to last objectives. I hovered near the place where the assaulting team has to jump off and parachute down and just cut people down as they ran for the edge. Finally someone got a Stinger and shot me down. I love those moments in games.

Man I wish they wouod let you quit a server/game in between maps. That still bugs the hell out of me.
I haven’t gone back to Metro yet, but every other damn map is like an orgasm of WIN on my screen.
Much more destruction, blood now, many things go boom. :)
That was me too. I bought BC2 when I built a new computer just to look at pretty graphics. I decided to check out multiplayer and I was hooked. I just had to set myself a maximum hour limit so I’d keep moving on my backlog.
You should consider giving it a try. I don’t want to play every multiplayer shooter that comes out either or dedicate myself to one as much as an MMO player, but there are a couple good ones that offer a unique experience.

Sorry, I meant the minimap.
I actually own BC2, finished its SP (mediocre) and played about 4 hours of MP…it did not hook me. But I will probably buy this one anyway, if only for the SP and pretty graphics (once it comes down in price). And if I get it, I will surely try out MP as well, maybe it will hook me, although I would not bet on it.
ahhhhh shit man. I wasn’t really following this game. Didn’t play the beta because I don’t really go for MP any more these days, but I’ll be damned if the sudden release hype doesn’t have me considering that “buy” button. I played Battlefield 2 to death, and if this recaptures some of that magic…

Anyone run into much hacking on the PC version?

I’ve heard older Battlefields were buggy and unpolished on release. Is that the case for this one? Should I buy it now or wait?
I have the game!
So, the campaign. Typical CoD clone with mediocre AI, over scripted, on rails parts, stealth sections consisting on advancing 40 mts straight, QTEs, etc.
One example would be the jet level. It’s the most mindblowing thing i have seen since… it’s the most mindblowing thing ever. That’s it, the graphics. But being so good, it’s also incredible bad. The gameplay. The entire level is, surprise surprise, a onrails experience. I suppose they didn’t have time to do something better, using up so much resources in the purty graphics!
Perhaps, but the notion that you can capture that Game X’s user base simply by trying to be more like Game X is questionable at best. Just ask all the MMOs that are trying to be WoW. DICE would be better off focusing on their strengths, and making great single-player campaigns is not one of them. They make fantastic multiplayer games, and they should run with that–distinguish themselves from Modern Warfare, rather than trying to be Modern Warfare. Being MP-only certainly hasn’t hurt Team Fortress 2.
If you are mostly interested in solo play, then my advice would be to avoid the Battlefield games altogether. Their single-player gameplay has always been pretty awful.

Heh, looking at the unlock progression for the AK-74M on battlelog, and it shows - Ballistic (12x) You need to be a DICE employee

You can join and leave squads, the join button is just in a weird location at the bottom of the screen when you have a squad selected. Took me a while to find it.
Compared to the desaster that was the BC2 launch everything seems to run smooth in BF3.
