The EOD-bot can spot and disarm them. Good luck controlling it though.

are you sure? I tried testing this by facing each of four different ways when placing my beacon and every single time I spawned facing the goddamn wall. I was getting quite frustrated.

That’s how they function (how I face when I drop the beacon determines spawn direction) for me.

And speaking of Recon… Here’s how I play the class.

The thing is, I’m only an average sniper. And crouching somewhere shooting guys is boring anyway, and doesn’t help the team that much. So I’ve fallen into a counter-recon role, you could say.

What I mean is that I am the fucking Predator.

Loadout: whatever rifle, suppressed pistol, cameo that matches the environment (actually important), motion detector, spawn beacon.

I try to specialize in defending points that under attack from a small group enemies. You know how when there’s some big battle going on, some wiseass squad will slip around it and try to capture on of your back door points themselves?

I kill those guys.

Once you see the flag icon flash on the map, and you suspect it’s just 1-4 guys, head over there. Drop a reswpan beacon nearby so you can come back quickly if you’re spotted. It’s you v. ~3, (you can gauge how many by how fast the flag is being captured) and there’s a time limit (them capping the point) so you need information. Find a good spot and drop the motion detector (an early Recon unlock) and hopefully at least one guy will move enough to show up on your map. Don’t go straight for that guy, just be glad you know he’s there. Look around until you find another guy or you are confident he’s alone. If the enemies are bunched up, throw a grenade at them and shoot the stragglers. That’s the easiest. If they’re spread out, then knife / pistol them one by one. Recons tend to like doing this sort of capture, so many of the guys will be prone, facing the flag from a few meters away. Crawl up behind them and knife them (my second “most kills” weapon is my knife). Can you see any other enemies from there? Shoot them with the suppressed pistol. Squaddies tend not to face each other, so it’s surprisingly easy to quickly take down a few guys this way (and many times these capture groups aren’t actual squads and aren’t really paying attention to each other anyway). If you’re spotted, run back and hide for a bit. Then go back (and you always have the beacon if you are killed).

To be fair, this probably isn’t the most efficient way to play (although getting a 3 kills plus a flag cap (it’ll probably fall into neutral) is pretty good), but damn is it fun! And there’s nothing more evilly satisfying than earning a squad wipe ribbon.

Thanks for the tip on rejecting the revive. I did not realize that.

Just to confirm, you only need to tap the melee key for a knife kill, right? Or are they still doing that 2-second hold animation thing?

Looks like both. If you hold the melee key it will do the animation. If you tap it will just stab the guy. Keep in mind that you need to stab him two times at least to kill him.

Mortars are so frustrating. They need to do something to change them. Mortars are fun in RTS games, but in a multiplayer shooter they are just a source of frustration. I don’t even like them on my own team.

You can tap the knife key when you are knifing from behind and it’s a one shot kill, the kill animation will play. You don’t need to hold the key, at least in my experience.

The thing with mortar is that it’s one of those weapons that very conditional. It’s only of use when you know for certain that you’re going to hit someone. I was killed by a very good player with a mortar yesterday on Seine Crossing. He bombed the hell out of our squad once we would attempt to capture a flag. Wiped us two times in a row from the comfort of his own base.

I think this is correct. Holding pulls the knife out and equips it, at which point you can use the normal ‘shoot’ button to use it. Tapping it just does a quick strike. It will still trigger the kill animation if you are in the proper position.

I think I did this in the single player. So if someone is facing you and you use the knife, it just does a swipe instead of an instant-kill chest stab like in BC2?

I believe so, yes.

I can’t fly for shit. Copters or jets. I was pretty good in earlier BFs, but something about the way they rattle throws me off. Actually flying is ok, but trying to shoot anything is tough. Seeing a chopper line me up for a passing kill while i’m moving is pretty damn impressive, so I know its possible.

I’m on PC and used both KB and joystick. Any flying tips would be appreciated.

Seems like you’re only able to “see” enemy units up to around 750m, beyond that, you might see the scope glint, but any shot fired in that direction disappear before they hit your target.

Longest sniper hit I’ve had was 704m and my friend managed to get a 710m shot.

Sad that the bullets just… disappear.

The mortar is too good a weapon on RUSH. You know where the enemy will come from, you know the direction they will be heading, and you know their goal, so you can just spam shells close to the MCOM and kill them all.

Edit: And choppers move like old ladies with umbrellas.
No, scratch that, old ladies with umbrellas fly faster.
I Suppose they are limiting the speed due to the tiny maps… but … wow… its slow.

Helicopters seem more stable compared to BC2 but I feel like I have to press the throttle up button almost constantly while maneuvering. Otherwise I lose altitude quickly.

Thats pretty much the definition of copter.

I confirm your “feeling”. You have to throttle up to have lift every few seconds.

I know. But there’s something unnatural about the digital throttle up/down controls. They’re not as intuitive and easy as using a joystick throttle axis for the collective.

This is one place where the xbox analog triggers are winners. All I have to do to hover is hold in the right trigger a little bit. Took me a bit to find the sweet spot, but it’s great.

ok someone ok my application to join
