It functions, but that is about it. Compared to Steam it is curiously bloated (check the memory usage of the process at startup compared to Steam) and does not compare feature-wise. But, the important thing is that it doesn’t impair enjoyment of BF3.

It’s Origin (adobe air) PLUS your web browser for more memory sucking.

I’m horrible at this. In the 3 or 4 matches I played, I was averaging a .30 kdr or so. And not being able to help my team much either since I don’t know the maps yet. Maybe I’ll improve, maybe I won’t. I’m just not feeling this game, while I instantly took to BFBC2. My interest in the fps genre has waned considerably lately so that’s probably why I don’t care much for the game… yet.

Origin on my rig is about 100MB while resident instead of Steam’s 12MB. Youch. Except I have 8GB of RAM, so it’s a total non-issue.

As Battlefield requires Origin, I would have preferred that the sever browser be in either Origin or Battlefield, not a 3rd application. But if they’ed put the server browser in Origin then everyone would have complained so I guess.
That’s the problem these days when people have several gigs of RAM. Developers get lazy with memory management on the PC because of this. It adds up and makes a big difference when you want as much memory for resource intensive programs like Photoshop or your games.
So, how do you think they are killing you with 2-3 shots and you need a full magazine?
Read well your own post. That discrepancy in number of bullets to kill, the several retries to connect a server, people jumping around thanks to the lag… all is pointing to a important NAT/lag issue from your part.
That’s why you are missing so much while the other people don’t have a problem killing you.
Cheating is IMHO out of control. It feels like on every second map there is someone ruining others people fun.
Someone wrote that all the important stuff is done clientside, no idea if it’s true, but this did sound bad.
Btw, I thought ranked servers had some kind of administrative rules by EA. Guess I was wrong. 2-4 player private ranked servers for stat padding with 200k xp every 10 minutes.
Then there is the lack of a working chat interface. I guess the console players don’t need it.
Otherwise, besides the weird launcher, I really like this game and it’s fun, albeit some smaller flaws, but the stuff above really makes me sad:(

My favorite weapon now is the A-91. With the x7 scope, and the hard tube, setting manual mode, works like a sniper weapon. In auto mode works like a SMG for close quarter combat. Is excellent in both modes.
The jabelin and mines are also great. In every game I disable 8 o 9 vehicles, more If I get into a monster like the AA tank, where I can’t die and everything that fly explode.
The infantry maps on this game feel like a horrible spawnfest where people love to get stuck in single chockepoint. To hell with people. I liked Rush in Bad Company2, but here is not good.
I have found a site with the list of all the weapons and unlocks, clearly ordered.

That’s missing some guns like the T88, most of the COOP unlockables and the M1911 from Gunclub/Veteran.
Origin works awesome on my 360 version… zing!

Yep crap graphics and dodgy controllers as well…zing!!!
Excellent graphics (for the platform) and the best controller on the market. I hear even PC users own a few!
I have both the 360 version and the PC version, and while the PC version is indeed graphically superior by a wide margin, I have spent much more time with the 360 version overall, in part because my usual group of online friends are playing it on 360. Also, I don’t particularly care for keyboard/mouse anymore, I discovered, at least not when I have an alternative available.

I rented the game for console to give it a try with more lax controls but bastards at EA locked multiplayer behind a CD key. They don’t even give you a trial.

So, I joined a server with large conquest map, 63 players, logged on…and was the only one there…at all! Server browser still says 64/64.
rather weird.
I expect by this time next year just about every console title will use the “online pass” trick to short-circuit the used/rental market.

Ah come on I have a PC, 360, PS3 and a Wii and BF3 stinks on the consoles compared to the PC version. As far as a console game goes it’s pretty good but PC is where it’s at.

It’s pretty much how it is now. Games with no locks are becoming the exception.
